he beat the crap out of Jonathan Vilma just last week

Yeah seriously, Vilma threw off his helmet and was praying he was someone else after that hit. I didn't see any mojo lost.

The only thing I'm seeing on the short yardage plays is lack of an O line push and MB doing a little bit stutter foot dancing east west in place while he looks for a hole.

Got to pick a lane and go, can't be searching.

The one thing that stands out to me is, that he used to jump over the defense on short yardage plays..

#1 He's not being used the way he was at that point a few years ago. He is not the closer anymore. (a mistake IMO).

True

#2 He is learning what too many running backs learn, sometimes too late, on how to avoid taking direct hits to lengthen his career. As Deion would say, it's a good business decision.

Unfortunately, that was most of his game. He got a lot of advice on this after the season he really broke out - that he would wear himself out if he didn't stop being so over-the-top physical.
I think he took the advice too far. I can't remember the last time I saw him really pound a tackler like he used to. That collision with Vilma was violent by most standards, but not by the standard MBIII set a few years ago.

#3 He has two other backs that are getting carries and that effects how you are engaged in the game.

True

I'll say around 5. It's pretty pathetic.
Kinda, negative aren't you???

This is a serious issue and you feel it is over discussed? Why because you are an NFL coach and like the idea of doing the least interesting, most conservative easily understood thing and run the high priced guy even though he has lost his MOJO. Look, Barber was a force when he was rested and came in and drubbed the defense. Starting him is ludicrous when you have Felix and Tashard. Start either and then bring Marion in for a change of pace. Starting a one dimensional runner is flat dumb in my book. And I think the line on that is 6 to 5 against!!!!

GO Cowpokes!!!

They implemented the Marion Barber rule which took away his stiff arm to the facemask. It has made him less aggressive or maybe getting his big contract has affected him like it does soo many others.

Unless your name is Santonio Holmes....? :laugh1:

I won't pretend I haven't noticed it like some of you are doing. ;)

He hasn't been the Barbarian at all this year. Where did those ridiculous yards after contact go? He used to lead the league in this category, but no way he still does.

Remember when he'd run every single rush attempt like it was his last? I saw him bust into the open field last night on a 10+ yard carry... and dive to the ground at the feet of a defender. The Barbarian would've absolutely punished that guy.

Either he's still not 100%, or he's consciously scaled his aggressiveness back some. Or maybe he's just lost a step.

But don't tell me this is the same exact guy who defenses loathed facing back in '07.

I think that no matter how tough you are, all those hits, collisions, etc. eventually take their toll on the body.

He is thinking to much about where to run instead of just running. He doesn't have the vision of FJ or TC and has to find holes whereas they seem to find the seam a lot quicker. Barber is spending a lot of time dancing around, Peete needs to remind him the quickest way to a destination is in a straight line. I have seen him miss first downs or positive yards because he decides to run laterally vs straight at the tackler, even an angle to avoid solid contact would help but not side to side. Thats just my opinion on it, I'm not playing coach just saying what I'm seeing.

Isn't it difficult to deliver a stiff arm if you have broken bones in your hand and wear a cast?

I don't know about you all but I think we are fortunate to even be able to talk about which of our 3 RBs should have the most playing time.
