I watched a QB yesterday that when the pressure was on, he couldnt get the ball near his wr's. He is a product of that system, Chip Kelly will have a shot at him at #20.

Missing his top 2 WR's didn't help but Mariotta looked off last night. Credit the OSU defense but still...

I doubt he drops all the way into the 20s. There's too many teams that need QBs up top and while he might not be great he's probably in the best for this year. Not worried about him going to Philly at 20, and I bet if they want him they have to move up inside the top 10, possibly top 5. I sorta hope they do that.

No he wont. QBs always get over drafted. I will say this though, he took a couple NFL type hits last night. He got up real slow. May have to change his game somewhat. BTW I dont think he is a lock to be more than average in the league.

He'll be out of the league in 3-4 years. Guaranteed.

I feel bad for these kids. The media hypes them up beyond belief. Tebow, Johnny, RG3. It's not their fault. They're put on this pedestal and forced to be great.

He's realistically a 4th or 5th rounder IMO. If he can't run, he can't do anything. His frame is small. He'll never survive a full season.

He faced a physical, smart Defense, and couldn't do anything, even after being gifted 4 turnovers.

I hope Chippy wastes his first pick on him. I really do.

And guess what, he's already 0-1 in Jerry World.

Yep. He's just like Tebow and Johnny. System QB's. How long did Tebow last? Let's see where Johnny is in 3 years. How about RG3? He'll be a back-up pretty soon.

Mariotta is not a pocket passer. He won't be able to run the BS spread offense in the NFL. Kelly's offense is modified a bit to take away the running of the QB.

NFL defenses will force him to be a pocket passer. It's not the kid's fault, It's just how it is.

Alot will depend on what happens with brian hoyer and jay cutler, add to that the speculation of the eagles maybe moving on from foles.
If im the bucs im seriously considering 1 of them rather than mariotta or winiston.raiders and jags are set are qb.Titans may want to give mettenburger a run at qb next season.
So theres a good chance both winiston and mariotta fall to the jets,if thats the case could chip throw everything he has at moving up?I sure hope so as it would set them back years.

Completely different scenarios. Both of those guys had serious flaws outside of being a system QB. Tebow throws like a girl and Manziel is too small and is more interested in snorting lines than learning the playbook. Mariota is 6'4 220, has at least an adequate NFL arm, and from all accounts is a good overall kid. Don't get me wrong, I have serious doubts about how much success he will have in the NFL, but out of the league in 3 or 4 years is WAY over the top. A better comparison for Mariota is RG3 minus the injuries...in my opinion at least.

I have watched him a lot over his career. I think he's a much better prospect then Kaepernick was coming out. He was the 36th overall pick in 2011. I think Mariotta will go higher in this draft but we will see. If he's there at 27, I'd have to seriously think about taking him.

He might not have looked great but they had a lot of momentum building KILLED early on by his WR's dropping wide open third down passes that would have resulted in huge gains.

I think he has good athletic ability, but will drop in the draft. He's not Russell Wilson and is more like RG3 (good athletically, questionable size and was in a read-option system).

I highly doubt he goes #1 overall.

It will depend on how he looks in workouts. Personally, I wouldn't hate it if the Cowboys somehow got to draft him. If he shows the ability to be a good QB, then sitting out for 1-2 years could be what he needs to seamlessly transition into a starting QB role.

To be able to sit and learn in the NFL would be the best possible situation for him IMO. That's how QBs used to be developed. Unfortunately, that rarely happens in the NFL anymore. I would love to see us do that if the opportunity presented itself but it won't IMO. Chip Kelly would draft Mariotta long before he got to us I think and I know you know this Rich. Just making the comment.

I don't think he's ready for the NFL right now, period. So even if Kelly drafted him (and I'm not so sure he would), it's going to be long road to hoe. He's got to transform his body. He's got a pretty small frame. And he doesn't have the footwork down consistently. Kelly can draft and start him right away for all I care. I wouldn't be the least bit worried.

6'4 219 is a small frame for a QB? Sure, a few lbs would definitely help, but I'm pretty sure that's the last of anybodies worries for Mariota.

I agree, he would need to get stronger. I mean, he's listed at 6'4" 220 lbs now so I think it would be a full offseason to add 15/20 lbs. That would certainly help him but I think that it probably wouldn't matter for Kelly. I think Kelly would draft him if he fell to him. He fits his offense so the Kelly Offense would actually be an advantage for him IMO. This is all hypothetical so it probably doesn't matter. I don't think he will fall to Philly at 20 or us at 27. He could, but I don't think he will. JMO.

Absolutely zero chance he gets out of top 10 IMO. Not only is the kid rediculously fast he can make nfl throws. On top of all that the big story about him every week is how he's the nicest down to earth kid in CFB. With all the media harping on the domestic violence and drug problems/partying that comes w/ a lot of these young players you don't think someone will look at that as a positive and draft him early? If he does drop I hope he goes to the Rams

Mariotta is the most sure fire QB to come out since Luck. He'll be highly sought after. Only fools make a judgement on a QB after just 1 game.
