When the NFL gets to the point of playing 100 games a season like Cuban's NBA, THAT IS SATURATION.
I kin miss 50 Mavs' games and know that the season is merely half over and there is so much time to get in a game. Same with the playoffs in the NBA: it takes like 3 months or more to determine the champ.

In sum, shut up Mark. Look at your own backyard before you point fingers at the NFL and tell it what to do.
Methinks the NBA will implode long before the NFL. OK, everbody rush to like this post.

i said this LONG ago. with the commish driving to be a bigger and bigger business he's killing off what built the it. can the NFL actually get a "new" audience? not in the US. people either watch or they don't and if things stay the same, as per any entertainment line, will walk away when it becomes boring.

but mr cuban, i walked away from basketball long ago. i have no idea who your coach is cause you fire them as a strange hobby and honestly don't even know id dirk is still on the team. maybe you better watch your own house, dude.

it's a lot like me trying to figure out local music and the next push. the next wave. you play too much people know they can see you tomorrow, so they'll skip a lot of shows. you don't play enough, they don't know you. while i think mr cuban has some passion around it, the NFL won't die in 10 years. habit alone will carry it on long past that. but is it dying?

that's the question.

I have "like" your post. The have I like is about Cuban watching his own house.

I DO NOT AGREE that there is anything like "saturation" or "oversaturation" to NFL fans.
Me, I'd watch NFL ever night if ah could.

If the NFL is going to implod because of "over saturation" Then the NBA, NHL and MLB must really be in trouble. I think Cuban is full of it, fact is NFL teams play 16 games in a season wins and loses are more critical each week than NBA who plays what 82 game? Or MLB who plays 162

Sounds like some guy who spent a lot of money on an NBA team is afraid his investment will tank. I haven't watched an NBA game for probably 20 years.

The NBA has its hands full competing with college basketball and hockey and a little baseball, soccer, and NASCAR. The NBA is basically left with leftover viewers at this point. If the NFL starts taking those leftovers away from the NBA, the NBA is in some serious trouble. The NBA salaries will drop and more athletes will choose football over basketball.

Dunno about that with regard to Cuban. I can recall hearing on several accounts that Cuban actually loses money owning the Mavericks. Seems like for him it's more of a hobby thing as he makes a lot of dough elsewhere, but he loves competing.

He can be abrasive, but I love what he's done for the Mavericks and fans in the area.

OK, I lost track. Which sports self absorbed Texas Billionaire making pronouncements in his own interests was right? I got lost along the way....

I'm in the Los Angeles Tech Community and know a fair number of people that have dealt with Cuban along the way, he is very bright and a lot of people say he is terrific to work for. That said, he does a ton of things that are somewhere between underhanded and disingenuous. Cuban and Jones are two sides of the same coin, guys with both strengths and weaknesses that are going to be in the picture for a long, long time.

On the topic, Cuban is "talking his book" because the NBA is sliding in ratings. The NFL may be pushing the envelope but its fiction from Cuban to think there will be a backlash or a backslide in ratings. People watch the NFL because they love the sport, the facts on the ground speak for themselves.

considering their smaller amount of people they can cram into their arenas, Id say they are doing pretty well: http://www.nba.com/2012/news/11/13/stern-nba-revenue.ap/

The NBA has Wednesday Thursday and Friday night cable double headers and at least one other Nba TV game on Monday and or Tuesday. They also have at least one but usually two ABC network game Sunday afternoon. That is the tv deal for the regular season which is little more than an exhibition since there is little that happens in the regular season which determines the champion. Contrast that with the nfl which has less time slots for far more important regular seasons then weekend only playoff games that are events.

True and a fan can see their team play 3 and 4 times within a week. NFL your team plays 1 game max 2 games within a weeks time.

Anyone who thinks a self made multi-billionaire doesnt know what he's talking about with a business is silly.

While the timing might not be accurate...the premise is there: over-saturation. You see all these retail stores closing up locations? Yup. Same principle.

Further, you're, at some point, going to change it to a point where you turn off your original audience.

Thats the Commish and Owners problem: they are thinking about this like a publicly traded company. With a company on a stock market, to keep your company value up, the share owners demand to see a revenue growth plan.

The nfl is basically a private company...at some point, they need to realize they have a very good thing going on and need to focus on keeping and reattracting current and old fans vs. trying to find new fans.

Cuban didn't build up a great business. He got some suckers from Yahoo to drastically overpay for a start up business back when the tech market was on overdrive.

No one gets a billion dollars by accident when it wasnt an inheritance.

My point is that he built a business that if it was not sold, would have been worth a few million dollars. He just happened to do it when tech stocks were going through the roof with some of them doubling in value by the week. Yahoo drastically overpaid for it based on potential. Yahoo was around before Google, but now can't hold a candle to Google in terms of a business in large part because they made stupid decisions like paying Billions for a company that was valued at a few Million.

There are thousands of people that have built business worth a few Million but very few when it comes to Billions. My point is that Cuban's really more on the level of the guys that built the few Million dollar businesses and not really on the level of most guys that built Billion dollar business. Jerry is the guy that is a Genius businessman, not Cuban.

I'm not saying the Cuban is stupid, but he's not the Genius that he portrays himself to be. Jerry is 1000x the businessman compared to Cuban.

Listened to Cuban on Colin Cowherd's show this morning. He had some good points. His opinion on the radio did not seem so damning in his opinion of an impending NFL implosion. He talked more about the potential if the NFL is not careful of possible problems rather than saying it was definitely going to be a problem.

Cuban definitely had some luck in making his fortune. Luck always plays a part, but you still have to take advantage of that good fortune when it presents itself. That is when a person's skills really shine. Cuban took his good fortune and quickly diversified to make sure he kept a good portion of the fortune before the impending bubble burst.

Why? Mark cares about his team and is smart enough to step away and let people who know what they are doing run it.

They're both odd. Cuban probably is a better owner in a lot of ways. I don't follow the NBA really.
