DALLAS -- After two failed bids to buy a Major League Baseball team, billionaire Mark Cuban is seriously considering trying to use his money to create a playoff alternative to college football's Bowl Championship Series.

Cuban, the outspoken owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, told ESPNDallas.com on Wednesday that he is "actively interested but in the exploratory stage" of creating and funding a playoff system to crown a champion for major college football.

"The more I think about it, the more sense it makes as opposed to buying a baseball team," said Cuban, who tried to buy the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers within the last few years. "You can do something the whole country wants done."

I'm all for it.

All he has to do is front more money. That's all it's about. All it has ever been about.

You mean you're not excited about the 150 bowl games?

See I think they should keep the bowl games as Playoff games.

They can have separate sponsors and so on. They can provide the goodie bags to the teams. This would also provide local money to an area the stadium is located.

When you get to the semi finals or final 8 or final 4 (like basketball of course) you move into the old BCS bowls until the end result is the two teams in the championship game.

I think the problem the NCAA will have with it (although they probably would not admit it) is the idea that they, or those sponsoring the bowls/stadiums) would have to have a playoff game at their place when it is a smaller school that is not known to have a large following of fans that travel.

That is something that has helped WVU in the past. Even when we go to a bowl that is not the best, it is normally still better than some of the other bowls because they know that the WVU fan base is a decent size and is well known to travel to games. Hence ticket sales.

One things people are under-estamting is that it defintely would hurt the regualr season a bit. But whenever I heard that argument(from Tim Cowlishaw) I thought to myself so what? Every sports playoff is better than the regular season. It would make up for it in the end.

They could have prevented this massive uproar if they just even added a plus 1 to avoid the mess of having these undefeated teams not have a shot. It makes the sport look like a total sham.

You can even keep everything the same way, except once every bowl game is played you rank the teams and the best 2 get the championship game.

Even something like that would solve the issue of a ton of teams having no shot at a title

Few years back a group tried to do this with the National Championship game (year were we had co-national champs) and the schools declined there is no way any of the colleges will go against the NCAA. This is a good PR move by Cuban but it is not going to change anything

Article goes on to say that Cuban wants a 12- or 16-team playoff with higher seeds playing home games.

I'm not crazy about that format.

Anyway, if Cuban does succeed, the NFL better watch itself. College football might just have a fighting chance at #1.

Cuban has a lot of money he does not have the power that the NCAA holds. Believe me I want to see a playoff system in college football but until the NCAA has a change of heart it is not going to happen.

I think Cuban is making a huge statement, "It IS and always HAS been about the money the bowl games bring in."

If you put up a list of college bowls happening this year, I can replicate that list perfectly of which games I won't be watching.

No playoffs, no bowl games for me.

You are right. That group that wanted to do all of this is also now out of business.

Cuban can hope and dream all he wants and get his name in the paper but the BCS is here to stay.

No offense but I don't get at all why you not watching good college football is saying much of anything.

It says you are missing out on some good college football is all I gather.

Have your position but stating it in every BCS thread isn't saying much either.

So basically you never watch college ball right? Since there are no playoffs in it?

It's still football. Great games I might add.

Me either. To me the goal should be to include the minimum amount of teams necessary to ensure you include all those who have a legitimate claim to being there. That may be 4, or at the most, 8 teams. Maybe 6 teams with the top 2 having a 1st round bye. There may be some argument over who should be the 5th and/or 6th team in, but that would be arguing over a slot that is questionable anyway. 6 would be enough to ensure that the teams with the most legitimate clsims are there.

Just don't use the BCS to rank them! :laugh2:

I will not support the BCS in any way, shape or form; therefore no, I do not watch any bowl games.

It's a matter of personal conviction.
