Watching the HOF game and all the sucking up to bruce smith and his 200 sacks. whatever. it just made me think of mark shutting him down in 2 straight super bowls. take that bruce. rip tui.

Don't be an ***. Smith was a great player and deserves the honor.

I don't think it's fair to credit Tuinei for single-handedly "shutting down" Smith.

I take him on my team

He currently holds the record for most career sacks with 200 after surpassing Reggie White's record during the 2003 season.

11× Pro Bowl selection (1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998)
9× First-Team All-Pro selection (1987, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997)

NFL 1980s All-Decade Team
NFL 1990s All-Decade Team
AP Defensive Player of the Year (1990, 1996)
UPI AFC Defensive Player of the Year (1987, 1988, 1990, 1996)

When you look at all those statistics it's amazing! All decade TWICE, is what stands out to me the most!

well that just was not counted back then - Deacon was a beast

Deacon was rated top pass rusher in NFL history per NFLN. Loved the fact he wanted to kill QBs.

Do not be a hater. Bruce had an awesome carrer and deserves to be in the HOF.

Aren't all those old games taped? There's got to be some way to get a near accurate figure as to how many sacks Deacon Jones had - something closer than his like 5000 or whatever he claims.

Smith was a great player who often dominated in games.

He wasn't much of a factor in those games against Dallas, though, and Tuinei should get a lot of credit for that. That the Cowboys were able to contain Bruce Smith was a major accomplishment.

Pro Football Weekly put his career sack total at 173.5, 3rd best all time. He had 3 seasons of 20+ sacks, including back to back seasons in '67 and '68. During a 5 year span, the least amount of sacks he had in a season was 18 and during that same span he totaled 102 sacks. That's incredible.

To match that 5 year streak, Ware would have to average 28.25 sacks in the next two seasons.

Those were during the 14 game seasons also...

Tui was a very good lineman but I take nothing away from the career of Bruce Smith he very much deserves to be in the HOF

Spoken for truth.

I asked a Bills friend of mine, who is from Buffalo, if he was enjoying the Hall of Fame festivities. He wanted to see Ralph Wilson get inducted, but couldn't care a less about Bruce Smith.

He said Smith was a turd who got 75 percent of his sacks against the Jets' and Patriots' weak lines in the 80s and 90s. He said one thing you could count on is that Bruce Smith wouldn't show up in a big game.

Not my words. His. And he's a die-hard Bills fan.

All I know is that Dallas had no trouble with the guy.

I thought about Mark Tuinei this weekend, too. RIP.

.

I expect that any great pass rusher will have gotten most of his sacks against average or below average OLs
