I was very impressed, particularly with Marshall and that job that he/they did filling in for the obviously insanely-annoying-voiced Dikembe Vermeil

that was each of their first times in the booth and Deion was very grateful after the game, even went as far as to thank the fans for allowing him to share his opinions or some such, and said he felt it was really great

anyway, I just thought it was cool that they came in and filled in like that and thought they deserved some props for the last second substitution

what's funny is that Dikembe Vermeil was passed out in the booth on the floor with an empty bottle of Jack in each hand. jk.

If they got rid of Bryant Gumbel they would have somethin goin there. He called the play clock the shot clock :lmao:. Said the Saints could clinch the NFC west. Many more goof ups..

They did a good on the spot job in an emergency. When healthy, though, Vermeil is one of the best in the biz. I loved when he did college games on ABC in the 80s and 90s.

Faulk was jealous of a MBIII run saying... anyone could have run through that hole... Faulk is bitter about not playing... he cant be objective

All I know is that if Steve Nash was our QB we would never have a delay of game penalty. ;)

I totally agree. Now of they can just somehow replace Gumbel then they might be onto something.

I dont get it. I dont care one way or another but Gumbel seemed like he was able to carry the game. He will get better as he goes too.

I don't know man. Someone else said it prefectly in the thread I created about tonight's broadcasters earlier today. I loosely quote "Gumbel makes is sound like I am listening to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade".

Gumbel is very hard to listen to... I mean c'mon this was a virtual shootout and the complete lack of emotion or strength in Gumbel's voice really deadened the broadcast. I mean I would have thought there was a incomplete pass thrown on the Ware interception and return... If you can't get the idea that a big play just happened then I might as well just be reading the close captioning... I would go as far to say that he's the worst I've heard in a long time.. college or pro.. keep him in the studio.

Vermeil had some great coaching insight and Deion managed not to make a fool out of himself and brought some emotion that was sorely needed.

Gumble immediately turned me off when he said the game was a barn-burner

when the score was 14-7!

I think the NFL Network would be best served just going forward with the Faulk/Sanders duo, frankly. Collinsworth should just stay home on Thursdays, too.

Vermiel is usually good when his voice is in tact. But having two color analysts means less time for Gumbel to speak -- which is a good thing. I thought Deion and Marshall interacted very well.

On a side note, I'm surprised at how good Deion is getting on TV. He still throws out occasional head-scratching commments, but he's become a much more polished personality IMO. I actually enjoy listening to him now. I thought he was easily the worst on television when at CBS.

I'd be curious to know if he's just getting more comfortable or if he's actually worked hard at getting better. He's become less flash and more substance, while still flashing that trademark smile and engaging his Prime Time personality to make him interesting.

I gotta agree with Dale on this.

I couldn't believe Vermeil was even asked to do the game. They had to have heard him pre game. He's a great analyst to listen to for his comments, but you couldn't get past the voice to pay attention to what he was saying last night.

Bryant Gumbel has a great voice, but I can't stand listening to him.

I liked Deion and Marshall last night. They added to the broadcast. I'm a bit shocked to be saying that about Deion. I've never liked his commentary.

I totally agree.

I thought it was very cool that Deion and Marshall said afterward that it had been a dream of theirs to call a game and how very grateful they were for the opportunity. Deion really sounded sincere and it was believable.

It's actually enjoyable to watch him now and I hated it when he first started on NFL Network this season.

Edit: When Dick's voice is better, they would make a great 3-some in the booth.

I really like Deion, he did a great job. He isn't scared to ask the tough questions and I love the way he handled TO after the game. Prime didn't shy away from letting TO know that that was a boneheaded move to spit on somebody. I really like Primes work!!!

i think deion really opened up what was going on in the game and coverages...pretty impressive to me...i think someone is going to offer him a job doing that soon after last night...if he can keep in professional he will be ok...i mean who knows, with his knowledge he could parlay this into a madden type deal with some of the bravado he has...just dont go over the top...a little is better...will catch on IMO...
