Martellus Bennett... Again

It was a weak penalty call. But you're right that if Bennett rides his guy up the field sooner, he doesn't have to grab for even a split second.

The fade route was a bad pass from Romo. If Romo simply throws a lob, Bennett maybe catches it or draws a flag. By Romo simply throwing a flat laser, the much shorter defender had a chance to make a play on the ball.

He suffers from Jeff George syndrome, all the physical talent in the world but nothing between the ears.

It was ticky tack call, something we had no shortage of Monday Night. There is, at a MINIMUM, a little bit of holding going on in each and every block.

I honestly think he doesn't like playing for the Cowboys and Romo and is just tanking it so he will end up with another team. There's no way any athlete could get this far being that lazy.

Got to love the cowboys zone, where winning doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is our ability to find a coach, player or players to criticize.

The offense is obviously out of sync yet they are playing extremely hard in spite of chemistry issues. Players are being asked to play different roles, some are exceeding and some or struggling...that's football.

Marty is always going to be an easy whipping boy some of it is self inflicted and some of it is so many of the other whipping boys are either playing good to great or no longer on the team.

Regarding last game, that holding call was complete BS especially what the skins lines were able to do to our guys. The one area that I don't worry about Marty is his run blocking. Anyone that has been paying attention knows that usually Marty is an asset in the run game.

On the touch down pass attempt, Romo has to get that ball up higher. If he does Marty catches that pass easily over the defender. This is not the first time Romo did not get the ball up high enough but I am willing to attribute the last time to his ribs.

IMO, we should be celebrating the resiliency of this team, which is succeeding in spite of the many built in excuses that would have in years past derailed the train after week 1.

THe hold was a ticky tack call that seemed really dumb to call given that they were allowing the Skins O-Line to tackle Ware. But it happened none the less and he does have to take some blame there, ticky tack or not.

The endzone thing I would have to put pretty much on Romo. You're needing to throw the ball up higher cause you have a serious height mismatch and the pass from Romo simply wasn't what it needed to be in that situation.

That's not to bag on Romo, in anyway, cause no QB throws a perfect pass every time, but that one has to be on him and not on Bennett.

All that said I'm disappointed, overall, with Bennett cause I do beleive he could be so much more for this team and it just doesn't seem like he wants it bad enough.

Not to mention, in the endzone, he didn't cut back to create distance between him and the defender. This guy is just a dumb football player.

That seemed to be the case - I've disliked him from day one for the stupid tweets and his celebration prior to production attitude, and the legion of excuse-makers that follow him around, but I thought that he'd have a break-out year after being shown-up by Phillips last pre-season. He has been a solid blocker in the past, but just seems to get lost out there at times. Romo might have also not thrown the greatest ball, but it looked like MB didn't cut.

At least you are a little honest.

Typically when you dislike someone, anything that person does will be transformed into a reason that reinforces why you did not like him in the first place. So many fans cannot get past their first impression of high and tight Marty B.

Witten catches that ball in his sleep.

Which may be part of the problem, Romo is used to guys like Witten and Austin who are great at using their body to shield defenders and catch that back shoulder pass.

Not to mention the weak attempt he made to catch the fade in the end zone.

He should fight for it and he doesnt. Big guy like that should crush little DB's in that situation.

He just seems like one of the dumb players on this team. No, we didnt get rid of all of them YET.

That pass also should have been higher. Romo threw a bad pass.

True.

It was a poorly thrown ball. Bennett had position in the back of the end zone if the ball would have been thrown up high, and it was thrown low and on a line, letting 5'9" CB make a play on it.

This is true.

It won't matter. I've seen Romo throw high passes to him that he still couldn't come down with.

I have seen this too. Sucks, he should be able to make those plays and he cant.

Bennett created a big hole for Felix to run through
on the 40 yard gain in the 4th quarter.

All the above and then I see this and I say.... now what? lol

Yep because Witten catches every bad pass that has ever been thrown his way.

You're missing the point. IMO it wasn't a bad pass - it did hit Bennett in the hands - it was bad technique on the part of the receiver. Or at least not what Romo is used to working with when throwing to Witten.

I agree with that, There aren't many passes Romo can't throw, but a classic high fade isn't one of them.

Ohhhhh, I get it, all passes that hit WRs/TEs in the hands are good passes? Thank you.

Why was it a back shoulder pass?

It wasn't a great throw but it hit him in the hands. That was all on Bennett.

The throw hit the defender in the hands. The guy is 6'6" it should have been a higher throw. I even saw Romo go over to Bennet a couple of plays later and apologize for screwing up Bennet's pass.

You guys are just looking for reasons to hate on this guy.

Same story with him only tonight he got called out on National Television as Gruden called his blocking effort "weak" and the hold "inexcusable".

That was a drive killer and reminded me of the type of things, culture wise, that Garrett is trying so hard to eliminate.

The thing that bothered me most was that he could have overpowered his defender and pushed him down the field regardless of where the run was going, but he was lazy and realized at the last minute he had to try and get his hands on him.

He just doesn't get it.

actually, Jaws called the hold questionable. he wasn't sure if it warranted a hold.

and its funny. bennett is back and we run for 100+. coincedence? but lets focus on one play.

Bennett is SO frustrating. He has the physical talent to be amazing. He is so inconsistent.

BUT, watch the Felix Jones run to the outside left where he gets about 35 yards. Bennett is blocking his guy so well he looks like an offensive tackle on a tiny db. Makes a HUGE hole, and the block is TEXT BOOK. It is almost like he has a bit of ADD. He's like a big kid out there.

He has so much ability. You can't really teach heart/desire/engagement/focus/study/practice etc. You can try and teach them, and show people the way, but they need to choose that path. He is inconsistent.

We won't re-sign him and he will go somewhere and probably put up better numbers. Whether being a more - go - to guy somewhere else will give him momentum or not will be interesting. IF he doesn't earn the reps there, he will be the same for a new team, though - not sure he "gets" it.

I doubt he re-signs for what the Boys will be willing to pay him at this point.

Someone else said that was barely a hold...

Correct. A hold, but the kind that happens with that blocking assignment and usually goes without a flag. Bennett was cursed with being isolated for all to see.

i didn't see what was going on prior to the hold so I can't speculate as to his committment on that play.
