I remember meeting Dean Palmer (the strike out king of '92) of the Texas Rangers many years ago at a movie theater. He was there with either his girlfriend or wife (don't know if he was married) and my cousin and I walked up to him and I poked my cousin and said, "Hey look, it's Dean 'swing-at-anything' Palmer".
He nearly socked me.
But this taught me a lesson... it's okay to criticize players when you are at home on the couch, or from behind a fence at a game. But if you do it when they are in arm's length from you, you might just go home with a souvenir... a broken nose.
