Martellus...

I just hope the light goes on inside his head cause he has the skills big time to be dominant.
Hopefully, you will also take into consideration that the "skills" you are referring to include blocking. We do want him catching passes in those select passing situations which will make him a designated receiver AND when the ball is throw his way.

However, there has been no indication from the front office or coaching staff that precludes whether he will be any more heavily involved in the offense passing scheme than last season. In other words, you may be set on seeing him go off like Witten or Antonio Gates, but his overall receiving production may only be a fraction of theirs.

Even so, that could translate into him making solid contributions for the offense. It's a matter of understanding what's practical and what's not.

Preseason isn't priority for Martellus Bennett

By Tim MacMahon

Bennett didn’t play in the Hall of Fame Game because the Cowboys wanted him to rest the ankle that sidelined him for the first week of camp. He sat out Tuesday’s practice and doesn’t seem concerned with whether he’ll play Thursday night against the Oakland Raiders.

“What really counts is the season,” Bennett said. “[Beep], I had a hell of a preseason last year. That [beep] didn’t mean nothing. I had 300 yards or whatever in three games, but that doesn’t mean nothing.

“But what really counts is the season, not the preseason or whatever. I just want to get to the season and do my job.”

“Y’all should have something,” Bennett said. “I’m not out here for no reason. The season didn’t go the way I wanted it to last year, but this here is a whole other season.

“I worked three times as hard as I ever worked in the offseason – on the field, off the field, film room, whatever it is. I’m just grinding right now.”

I know Bennett's everyone's 2nd favorite (and closing on RW fast) punching bag around here, but I tend to believe he is pretty serious about this season. Yes, he's done dumb off the field stuff, but that doesn't mean he has not put the time in during the offseason. Reports are he certainly has. And in interviews he doesn't seem to pleased with himself.

So we will see. But there are some indications that he is going too very serious about his craft this year.

Wouldn't be a normal day at the Zone without a Martellus Hate Thread. By all means, someone feel free to create another one. Let's have three even. Or four.

In the Rangers thread I was thinking to myself, "How can someone have over 5,000 posts, yet I don't even know who they are"

Now.. now I know.

Remember: down the road, not across the street.

I think he is more stupid and lazy.

And for those who keep preaching that maturity is just around the corner for him, you are in for a long, long learning curve.

Who are you to say that he can't/won't mature? Do you know him personally? To me, that just sounds like you're making an assumption based on your dislike for the guy.

I would not say stupid, by lazy for absolute sure.

And I agree, I don't know why people are still buying into he is maturing now theory when this is exactly what we have been told for the past two years...now all the sudden we should believe it? Fool me once....

Born March 10, 1987.

03/10/1987 are real numbers. He was unusually young when he entered the NFL. So of course it is only natural to question his materity.

I give him a pass for being inconsistent earlier. It is time for him to put it together now, however.

He was a fine blocking TE last year. Lazy players usually don't make good blockers, so I'm not buying the "lazy" tag some are trying to put on him.

He did not know the playbook by the end of the season last year...thats either lazy or dumb right?...I assume even dumb could learn the play book if they really tried...

BTW, what is the zero club? I tried to read the picture in your sig but it did not make much sense to me (maybe me and Marty B are both dumb)

Alot of people have posted he didn't know the playbook. Where did that opinion come from? I've read that he knew the playbook fine. But that it was his route running that caused Romo to lose faith in him towards the end of the season.

What about his heart...or his mental problems...the dude is a cancer! what a waste of talent

Really, you know this how exactly?

You didn't get the memo? All of the members on this site are experts in both psycology and physical therapy. In addition, every member goes and watches every practice, and observes Martellus in the locker room and weight room. Their word is nothing short of holy.

It is sad that when people speak in absolutes without being sure do not realize how foolish and ignorant it makes them look.

it is time for him to put up. No more excuses about maturity, etc. No more sloppy routes. No more free lancing. This is his third season and in the Great Tom Landry tradition this year it really matters.
