I really hope Jerry brings this guy in. Yeah, I know he has been cut twice lately, but I can't help but think that Marinelli could work some of his magic with him. Drake Nevis looked really good vs Washington and has earned more playing time, but I would like to see Austin come in and receive what David Carter was receiving. What could it hurt? Imagine if Austin could come in and regain his college form like Nevis looks to be doing. That would allow Dallas to concentrate on getting just 1 more DTand 1 more DE next year. Austin does not have to come in right away and wreck it, but maybe he could be a solid rotational guy for the team this year. At least give Hayden a breather every once in a while to keep him fresh.

Hard to think that Marinelli has any interest in this kid. He took a look at him when he was coming out of school, he didn't pull the trigger then, and he still hasn't. Whereas we've picked up a lot of other less known players, with less pedigree.

Austin's problem is simply himself - he doesn't play like a motivated player. He's not quick of the snap, doesn't have the best hand techniqe, etc...............................I think he would've been here already if Kiffin & Marinelli wanted him

It's a shame, because he's an incredible athlete. A 4.8 40 at 310 lbs is insane.

At the very least, adding him to the practice squad would be a risk free way of looking at him. It could pay huge dividends with his natural talent. My only concern would be whether his back issue from his rookie year is a chronic problem.

I said Nevis has being playing better than Austin. The question should be is Austin better than any remaining DT out there? Is he better than the David Carters and Jerome Longs that Dallas had working as the 4th DT. I think he is. I do not think Austin would come in and get significant playing time, but it would be interesting if he could come in and provide a breather for Nick Hayden. He is a low risk/ high reward player and right now Dallas needs another DT.

Word is, this dude doesn't like football at all. Completely disinterested and unmotivated to play.

It's motivation with Austin... Marinelli can't fix that.

He could only 'fix' Nevis because Nevis was in the wrong scheme.

If I were the FO, I'd probably be looking at other guys that don't fit the 3-4 schemes they were in, rather than guys that failed at similar one gap schemes of the 4-3 under. But they've been doing an awesome job lately at finding bodies, so I'm not going to tell them how to do their job.

Really a shame. That kid has off the chart talent but zero desire to do anything but sit on the coach.

Move on.

Being better than Carter and Long isn't helpful. They aren't here anymore. He would have to be better than Wynn and just comparing tape he isn't even close.

yep, i made this thread a month or so ago, and someone else made one a month before that. Everyone pretty much agrees that this guy just isn't what the team needs.

I always kept a close eye on him at UNC during this college days (5* coming out of H.S) and figure he would excel going into the pros but its a head scratcher hearing Austin lack motivation these days..

People would kill for these opportunites and players just piss them away.

Dallas has an open roster spot so comparing those two is not necessary. The question is who is the best remaining tackle out there because Dallas needs one. I wouldn't mind bringing in Jerell Powe in for a tire kicking session either, he was caught in a numbers game in KC and might make a good run stuffer. Point is Dallas needs to bring in a DT in now. Whether its Marvin Austin, Jerrel Powe, Amobi Okoye, doesn't matter just bring in the best person available.

I still think we are an injury or two away on the DL before we consider Marvin Austin.

Plus, we already have one Austin (Miles) on the roster. And that would require a name change to his jersey. And it won't be so simple because both Austin's first initial is M. So, this requires more thought on the jersey change. MI. Austin and MA. Austin just doesn't look right. :)

Now, if we can trade Miles Austin (which would be nice) ...

The new signing Wynn was a 3-4 DE. If he plays primarily DT, then it's more likely that they would sign another DE than DT.

I wonder if they would have to change Miles Austin's name on his Jersey, especially with one being on offense and one being on defense.

I believe it's ok for the names to be the same. They do have different jersey numbers.
