Matchup problems for the Jagunuts

Okay, so the Jags front 4 are big and strong....thats all I can see that is impressive about their defense. Their linebackers and corners are average at best, none of them stand out as being great. Darius at SS is good but can be beaten by speed. They play a basic cover 2 most of the time, so if they blitz with a safety or linebacker they will leave the middle WIDE OPEN. Witten will have a field day if they blitz any linebacker.

I tried to play defensive coordinator in my mind for the Jags, and I nearly threw up. Too many weapons for the Jags too handle at one time. Last year teams doubled Glenn after he was on highlight reels every Sunday at the beginning of the year. They knew Keyshawn wasn't going to beat them deep. This year...NOT SO..two wideouts on the outside that can toast you. THe Boys were vanilla this preseason using the 2 TE set. I expect some tweaks here and there with Fasano, someone I think the Jags arent really concerned with.

It's going to be fun to watch.

That's all very true, let's hope the line can keep the big strong guys off Drew long enough to throw. I suspect they will do so.

It seems that even thought TO might be the most talked about receiver in the league, people forget he may be the most talented. I remember watching TO in his first season w/ the Eagles in preseason and nearly soiling myself. This guy is that good. Even w/ Newman, I was like- Who is gonna cover this guy? We even signed a player Henry to help stop him. Now teams face a huge problem. Either double TO, a guy that may be one of the best in the league. Double Glenn, a guy that had the highest ypc percentage in the league even though he was doubled much of last year. Or, double a probowler like Witten. I'm not sure, but thinking of putting your second best corner on TO or Glenn is scary!!!! Not to mention not being able to double them. Really, the only resort that defenses have is to do everything to hit Bledsoe. That is gonna lead to huge plays. TO has never had a receiver opposite him that commands attention. Now he has two. I have my popcorn ready and I am not even getting into our stud defense!

I believe he played with Rice for a minute, but since then he hasn't had anyone the caliber of our skill positions by far.

I believe that TO is the best total package in the league at WR. Strength, speed, size, athleticism, agility, running all routes to precision, fearless going across the middle, and swagger. There is noone in the league like him, and I unquestionably believe he is the best at his position right now in terms of talent and the package of skills that he has.

The only thing that will stop TO this year is injuries IMO. He must teach himself to play thru some pain and he must develop a rapport with Bledsoe.

The way to defend the pass against us must be very difficult for many teams in the NFL. Zone coverage will leave holes for the underneath TE's and bringing guys up in the box to cover them and the running game will open up the playaction to TO and Glenn. In reality, our passing game could be very similar to the Colts'. Plus we will use it to open up our running game, with the right plays could be explosive.

The main difference between us and the Colts is Peyton Manning, of course, and that is still a big difference from Drew. They also are a good pass blocking team. Peyton could throw a pass to Marvin for a TD while sleeping cause they know each other so well, whereas Drew and TO has known each other for a handful of practices.

We do have some advantages though, hopefully by the end of the year, our D shows itself to be superior to them. Harrison is steady and consistent, but he doesn't have the athleticism and brute force of TO. I believe we have more talented backs at this point.

The Colts have been solid for years now, and we haven't seen ours together yet. We have potential, but that is all it is right now.

Bledsoe was like 9 of 12, it was preseason, and TO barely played, not to mention big Flo.

We didn't game plan their cover 2, we ran a boring offense, blitzed a couple of times, had no Flozell, and if Jax thinks that what we're all about, they will be in for a rude awakening.

I would go right into the passing attack if I were Dallas. I would throw, and throw often. When they blitz, I would do a ton of hitch plays to Glenn or TO if they back off of the LOS.

I would pull out a ton of pitch outs, and I will attack them down field to let them know how things are going to be. After they understand we're coming after them in the air, I will launch my ground assault. I would run straight at the Tackles on draw plays when we have the ends trying to get upfield on the pass rush.

On defense, I would use my base defense at first to test their OLine. Then I would flood Ellis's side of the ball with a FS and an ILB, then run stunts with Ware to get the Tackle off balance with Ware, then I would send Ware on an upfield rush along with a blitz up the middle to keep the QB from stepping up in the pocket.

I see us either blowing them out of the water, or us losing a close one.

Crayton and Fasano are the concealed weapons....go 3 WR and Crayton can also punish teams. He's been a forgotten man but he was last year too and was gashing teams until his injury. He and Fasano should get even less attention now with TO, Glenn, and Witten.

YOu can't look at preseason games and really judge how the team will function as a unit. Especially this year. You didn't have Flo, crayton, or TO. I expect great things from this team this year. I think the line will be fine. I admit it concerns me the most. Let look at it this way. The Vikes were playing a lot of 8 man fronts and used the blitz often. With TO and Glenn at WR, team will have to respect the pass more. I don't expect any team other then the Eagles to blitz constantly. Even they will need to respect the pass.

The part I like about this team is it can go max protect and keep the RB in to block and still make plays. In that situation Bledsoe has protection but one of the two WR have to come open. With TO and Glenn I like those odds.

The Jags are a bottom 8 team against the pass both TD's allowed and Yards allowed. Although this is slightly inflated due to their D vs. the rush.

I expect us to pass alot and have decent success. If we can plug the middle on blitz pick up's it will go a long way to helping TO and Glenn torch their very average secondary.

Just my 0.02.

I think we'll see a bunch of the following Sunday: Max protect, rollouts, shotgun, spreads, counters, and traps. Anything to block those DT's or get them moving side to side.
