Take this for what it's worth as rumors and misdirection are a dime a dozen this close to the draft, but one of my longtime friends works as an editor for Yahoo Sports. Word that's been circulating heavily in their office is that a team in the first half of round one has essentially promised they would draft Matt Barkley and already loosely agreed on contract numbers.

Again, don't take it as the gospel as we hear more BS vs. facts at this time of the year, but something to maybe keep in the back of our minds on draft day.

Teams reach for QBs every year. Geno, Barkley and Nassib could go round one. I would not be shocked to see Oakland trade back between 7 and 12 and take Barkley.

Whether it's Barkley or not, some QB is going to get reached for between 8 and 20. Maybe two.

Don't get the part about talking contract that early. That sounds like a bit of misdirection bs. If you're going to swoop in on the surprise QB, he's going to get paid where he's slotted. It's not going to be such a hit that you have to bother to tip your hand to get the framework for an agreement in place when he's pretty much already slotted and would be going higher than anticipated, anyway.

If I'm the Raiders, I ride out the storm this year with Flynn and Pryor. Then come next year decide if we want a QB. They really need to rebuild that Defense. The Bills/Jags/Browns and Cardinals could all take one still though, IMO.

Who knows this year. After Geno I have no idea who's going when and where. In fact I don't even know Geno will be the first off the board. 1-2 are likely in the top 20-25 but there could be more taken. I wouldn't though. I don't even know how to rank the top ten QBs.

Easy for contract numbers to be discussed. It's basically slotted for each pick.

Been saying it for a while.... at least 2 QBs will be picked before we pick

This should make one if the OGs or DTs to drop to us

Do lets speculate...

Could be arizona, draft him and let carson tutor him. Take the best ol in the second and grab winston, smith or clabo to further address ol.
Could be nyj who now most likely have two first round picks.
Could be cleveland although they took weeden late last year.

That would be my three guesses.

Buffalo could also be added to the mix along with Jacksonville. The new staff has no loyalties to Gabbert.

Nothing would really surprise regarding the drafting of QBs, but if it's before pick 18, gotta love it!

This is what makes me think this is all BS, no offense to the OP.

Each pick is slotted now with the rookie cap, there is nothing to discuss because you get paid accordingly to where you are picked.

I smell smoke screen.

Barkley or Nassib could be this year what Locker was a couple years ago. A QB that didn't rate in the top 10, but went anyway because of his position.

there's not a QB in this draft that's worthy of a first round pick and Barkley certainly doesn't have a pro arm..

If we could get Barkley in the early 2nd and let him sit for a few years, I think it'd be wise. Won't happen, but would be smart.

he has bust tattooed on his forehead. DUMB MOVE.

Teams always reach for QBs. Even in a year when there are no good ones to be had.

If I were a team needing a QB in this draft--he's the one I would target.

I think he'll end up going first, before Geno Smith.

I would assume Jacksonville would take Geno over Barkley at 2. Which is probably what Buffalo,NYJ,Ari,Cle would be banking on in this scenario.

However I guess they could just like him more.

Have you looked at our two deep lately? We don't have the luxury of taking guys in the early rounds who are going to sit for a few years. We need players now.

Good quarterbacks are money in the bank. If they are good they can be traded for good worth, players or picks, if not needed immediately. If potentially really good they can be held on to until ready for leadership. Aaron Rodgers sat behind Farve for years until he became really good.

Sooner or later Dallas will need someone really good to succeed Romo. The chance to draft a potentially really good quarterback does not very often come along.

:)

We NEED our 3rd quarterback in the 2nd round, so he can sit behind Romo and Orton! Forget OL, forget DL, forget safety. We NEED that 3rd QB!
