If we could get Barkley in the early 2nd and let him sit for a few years, I think it'd be wise. Won't happen, but would be smart.

Tebow was a first round pick....and 31 teams knew he wouldn't be that successful as a NFL QB so I could easily see someone using a first on Barkley, easily. QB is the most important position on the team and if you don't have one, you don't have a team. If a guy pans out, you can never overpay him or over-draft him or spend too many picks to trade up for a franchise guy....ever.
IMO Barkley won't do that well in the pros, but just saying someone is likely to take a chance on him in rd 1.

Take this for what it's worth as rumors and misdirection are a dime a dozen this close to the draft, but one of my longtime friends works as an editor for Yahoo Sports. Word that's been circulating heavily in their office is that a team in the first half of round one has essentially promised they would draft Matt Barkley and already loosely agreed on contract numbers.

Again, don't take it as the gospel as we hear more BS vs. facts at this time of the year, but something to maybe keep in the back of our minds on draft day.

well atleast it wasn't the guy at counter at liquor store. Were progressing ;)

The guy at the liquor just told me to buy more liquor. I didn't consider that noteworthy.

I bet there's a handful of teams that have Barkley rated higher than Smith. He's accurate, but his arm is only average.

I see Sanchez all over again.

Ill go out on a limb here and say no QB will be selected before 18. Just because a gut feeling tells me that none of the OG or DE slip to us that I want.

We NEED our 3rd quarterback in the 2nd round, so he can sit behind Romo and Orton! Forget OL, forget DL, forget safety. We NEED that 3rd QB!

In a draft that has ridiculously weak QB class with a strong OL/DL pool, let's not and say we did. It'll be better for the future to secure a solid, consistent O-line for the future QB(who may not have the skills like Romo to evade pressure) and also so Romo doesn't have to run for his life as well as Murray having servicable running lanes to help take pressure off of Romo. The defensive line is also more important this year because how often do we ever have the opposing team's o-line in the QB's face to disrupt plays or apply mondo pressure to force a sack/turnover/incomp? If your answer was anything other than "Rarely" then you'd be wrong. IMO there is no QB worth a pick higher than a mid-second rounder but I hope they go earlier than 18th to give us a chance at a OL/DL that can step in right away and start. Look to next year for a better QB to groom since it's looking like a better class than this year's stack of duds.

Only good thing is if Barkley does not cut it the price a team pays to take the chance is much less than it once was with these outrageous rookie contracts.

there's not a QB in this draft that's worthy of a first round pick and Barkley certainly doesn't have a pro arm..

I didn't think a QB would get drafted in round one about six weeks ago, but I've revisited my stance and think at least two will in Smith/Barkley. Too many crappy teams need one and will be willing to blow a pick on one in a draft that, while fairly deep, lacks surefire blue-chippers.

Good quarterbacks are money in the bank. If they are good they can be traded for good worth, players or picks, if not needed immediately.

I agree. CLE among others were considering going after Mallett this offseason and it probably would cost them more than the 3rd-round pick NE used to draft him, PHI got a better return from ARI for Kolb than the 2nd-rd. pick they spent on him, maybe someone targets Foles during the draft and gives PHI something better than the 3rd-rd. pick PHI spent on him.
