Wasn't Matt Johnson the one where there was some insider speculation that he may have been milking or faking the severity of his injuries?

That sort of thing probably was suggested in the threads, but I never saw it from anybody with any credibility. Every account I ever remember reading of the guy was that he was a hard worker who had ability the coaches were excited about who for whatever reason couldn't overcome the chronic soft-tissue injuries.

I remember rumors about toughness circulating about Mo at one point.

My thoughts exactly.

At the time, I think the argument was that our front office didn't know how to draft and that we were wasting 4th round picks, so fans were stupid to be enthusiastic about a small school guy who was a mid round pick. After hitting on Hitchens and Prescott in the 4th in subsequent years and finding Brown in the 6th this year, I think those arguments look sort of foolish in retrospect.

Johnson always seemed like a good dude. Nagging hamstrings has to be about the stupidest reason to lose your shot at your dream. For anybody who's ever put in the time and effort and discipline it takes to be good enough at something to compete at this level, it had to have just been gut-wrenching to watch it slip away over chronic soft tissue problems. Ha ha.

have we really hit on Hitchens? remember his rookie year many here was telling me how great he was going to be? So some enjoyed praising him on his limited time and some saw he wasnt going to amount to anything because his body cant keep up, nothing wrong with that. Playing in the NFL is not 100 talent. Some mental, some body. Matt Johnson didnt pan out, we dont know his talent because he never panned out. Plenty of posters here thought Dunbar and Pat Watkins were going to be good. The legend of Dunbar was huge. It happens. People are allowed their opinion and if your body cant take the sport, that is fair game too. Not everyone drafted can play this sport, plain and simple. Some people who werent drafted can play this game. Scouts arent perfect and its harder to judge the body, but its part of the game as well.

Ben Bass, will never forget how many were drooling over him back in 2012 especially the FAN that posted "I want me some Bass."

The defensive player Butler, Victor Butler i think but not to sure, og a lot of people thought he was something special, and dont even get me started on Carter.

What's next? Phil Costa commentary? How bout David Arkin? Remember those days RS. CZ posters were turning themselves into Mary Lou Retton trying to convince themselves they could play. :lmao2:

We had to wait and see if Costa, Arkin, Nagy could play. We couldn't possibly know or else we'd be smarter than the team.

Then when the Cowboys radically reversed course and took the offensive line seriously they all believed in that approach too.

I feel like I've become a better fan witnessing that.

Bless his heart.

I think it's funny watching people who would never, in their life, come close to making it to the NFL laugh at someone who actually made it to the NFL. He had a dream, he was athletically gifted, he tried his hardest, and it didn't work out. And so now he still supports our Cowboys.

What's the problem?

We hit on Anthony Hitchens. The fact that the question is even asked underlines the disconnect between the value of a draft pick and what those picks translate to when they get on the football field. When you take a rookie 4th rounder, and he walks in and plays all 3 LB positions for you on the way to starting at Mike on your 13-3 team, you hit on him. I don't remember people telling you how great he was going to be, specifically. He doesn't need to be great to be a good pick where we took him, though. I do remember people calling him a bust before he'd even taken a snap.

Back to Johnson, I don't agree that it's 'fair game' to mock somebody over a chronic injury condition. I think we all understand that there are lots of reasons why player don't pan out and that injuries are sometimes the problem. Those two things are not the same.

If I had a dollar every time "4 year rule" was mentioned on this site in reference to those three....
