...he also threw 3 td passes in the Panthers absolute demolition of the Vikings, a team that is in real trouble right now...they can't run or stop the run...

That was so stupid the way they tried to sneak him onto the practice squad after he lit it up in preseason when we had no developmental QB on the roster at all. That spot was given to some fringe ST player who was released a couple of weeks later.

This was one UDFA that unfortunately got away. I would so much rather have him than that McGee kid we drafted this year.

What a boneheaded move by Jerry. This is why we need a proper GM. Jerry tries to get too cute sometimes. They apparently were thinking of doing the same thing with Miles Austin after his rookie preseason but decided the risk was too high of him leaving.

If you see a great undrafted developmental prospect, you don't waive him and hope you can sign him to the practice squad. There are plenty of extra spots to store some players with the 53 man rosters.

Yeah, I know. I just found that funny. Actually, on the replay on NFL Access; he may have been trying to hit a receiver, but that didn't stop Steve Marriucci from saying he was trying to throw it away; as if that is ever a good play on a 2 point attempt. ;)

so they keep UDFA's Romo, Miles, and Ogletree but you choose to focus on the one that got away...after 1 good game.....you dont ask for much do ya?.....cant keep everybody..

It was obviouis that Moore would get plucked just as it was obvioius for Miles and Ogletree after their preseasons. When you see a guy with great talent but is a bit raw you can't risk losing him by waiving him and hoping noone tries to sign him to the active roster. There are too many scouts out there who watch all the games and see if they can spot any players to poach off the waiver wire or practice squads.

The bottom of the roster is always full of some fluff that you could cut and never notice it.

Jerry later admitted they made a big mistake in exposing Matt Moore to the practice squad.

In their defense, they released Stanbeck who was a former 4th round pick and major pet project to make room for Ogletree on the roster. ( Stanback has made it onto the Pats active roster and has dressed for 5 games with 3 catches for 22 yards.) We need to keep doing this - picks and UDFAs get equal treatment in preseason/TC in terms of making the roster with some special allowances in certain situations.

As a UCLA Bruin I got to see Moore plenty and I liked him. Karl Dorrell really made a mess of the QB situation so Moore transferred. It sucked to see him leave UCLA and then I was happy of course to see the Boys pick him up only to have to see him leave my team again...:banghead:

The point is not he got away, the point is that they gave him away. Almost everybody, and their mothers, who root for the Cowboys wanted to keep him on the roster as the 3rd QB that year. Almost everybody, and their mothers, thought it was a stupid idea to waive him just to fit in an extra DB ( if I recall correctly ) just to play special teams, whom everybody knew would probably be cut eventually anyways.

Unfortunately, a part of the crowd that was against it, ie: Cowboys front office, had the final say and it turned out to be a STUPID move.

and make no mistake about it, the criticism got to the point where Mickey Spagnola had to write about it defending the move, which nobody bought anyways, but it goes to show how much potential he had shown up to that point.

I like the potential that McGee has too, don't get me wrong, but would the Cowboys had spent an early 4th round draft pick on him had Moore been on the roster ?

I doubt it.

He played a nice game, but probably over half the yards came on 3 or 4 receptions where the Vikings LB's and DB's missed a ton of tackles and guys ran for alot of yards afterward.

Just like any other QB in the league. Think Big Ben's 500 yards last night didn't include mostly YACs?

Our own guy is probably one of the most beneficiary of YAC. That's how Austin has made this year a career year.

Sure it was alot of yards after catch, but not alot of yards after two or three guys bounced off a receiver.

Again it was a nice game, but he isnt the 2nd coming of Dan Fouts or anything.

The QB's job is to get the ball to the receiver where he can make a play. What happens afterwards is out of his control.

I don't think anybody is saying that, although nobody REALLY knows. I think the point is that he's shown, at the very least, that he can play in this league and the potential to be better than that. Where it goes from here, nobody knows.

Ready to put down people at the drop of the hate huh? I thought it was funny you had a dumb comment for a guy who played a heck of a game and is doing what you dream of. :lmao2:

I was so disappointed when we let Moore slip away like that. I really like what I see from this kid and think he will be a good QB in the league. I know many Panthers fans around here are hoping he keeps the starting job even when Delhomme is healthy.

Yes, we gave away a good one. If nothing else, we could have done like GB and traded him for premium draft picks down the line.

We'll harp on this for a long time, but I'm glad they cut Stanback in favor of Oggletree.

So you are pretty sure Jerry made that decision all by himself? The coach had nothing at all to do with it? Are you sure?
