Ask New England how two very good tighends helps on offense, because other than Welker the few years, that was their offense, no receivers to think of..
This draft only has about 16 first round talent and no real franchise type players but it's full of very good second, third and fourth round talent, if there's no top guard, or defensive end, I have no problem taking the tightend if he's the best player on the board since Witten is growing long in the tooth and the drop off will be quick for him.
Maybe that's part of the reason it works for them......imagine that. No WRs, so we can actually utilize both TEs to supplement a pretty dismal WRs group.
If you honestly think that just having 2 TEs who are capable will give you the results in NE, you're nuts.
Clearly Marty was better than he ever showed in Dallas. Why didn't it work out then? Was he not "great enough"?
Furthermore, lets just go ahead and drop the New England comparisons. They drafted both of those guys outside of the first round. They didn't prioritize the TE position. They took 1 guy at #42 overall and the other in the 4th round.
If Dallas wants to use a 4th rounder on a TE, be my guest. New England has shown it can be done, have at it Dallas.
And for what it's worth, Indy took 2 TEs in their 1st three picks last year. Why didn't they get Gronkowski results? They drafted Fleener who was supposed to be a stud and they took Dwayne Allen who's name was also floating around this board.
What New England does is good for them. Part of the reason they can actually utilize 2 TEs is because they have an OL that can block without that 6th man staying home.
If Dallas takes a 2nd TE, it won't get them anywhere near NEs production because Dallas will simply use the 2nd TE as a 6th OL.
Drafting a TE in the first round would be a huge waste for this team.
