Matthew Golden will be a Cowboy

Golden (5'11" 191) vs. McMillian (6'4" 219)

I'm not going to get into what the differences are between the two., most of us know.
The question is what WR is a better fit? The Cowboys biggest issue is inside the redzone when space is condensed.
Running a 4.3 is nice, but those opportunities are not always there. Having a target that wins in contested areas on a regular basis is.
Lamb is the man who will see double digit targets a game and his partner across the field will see half of that. Is Golden the type of WR to exploit coverages inside the redzone and be a major factor?
Dak isnt a “throw a jumpball” type of QB though. Its why Dez wasnt as effective once Dak took over. Get him a speedster with elite separation skills

I like Golden but Tet is just a better WR prospect. He’s ranked quite a bit higher on the consensus boards than Golden.

I’d be happy with Egbuka / Golden in a trade down.

Shouldn't the Ohio St kid be there too, isn't the other guy from Texas fast?
I'm fine with the Ohio State WR if that's the choice. The other Texas WR is Isaiah Bond. His production dropped drastically after an injury. He looked like a sure fire 1st round pick pre injury.

The top WRs are good, but not the quality of past years.

Many have Tetairoa McMillan as the top WR prospect.
He is 6-4 and FWIW, NFL.com has him graded at 6.40

A few years ago Dallas showed interest in Treylon Burks. He is 6-2 and was the 6th WR drafted in the first. NFL.com graded him at 6.50. In 3 years he has been a major disappointment.

A couple of this years highest rated WRs will likely be solid. But overall this group is weaker and the bust rate higher.

Even though we need a WR2, if you draft a receiver in the first, especially at #12, he needs to be one who can be a top WR1 in the near future. I dont see that type of receiver in this group.

Thanks for filling me in, I heard that the OSU kid is probably the most pro ready or will be a great pro because he does a lot of different things to help the team instead of just being good at one thing

For whatever reason Jerry and the Cowboys just don’t take WR’s early. Going all the way back to the year 2000 these are the only 6 WR’s taken in rounds 1-3, with 3 of 6 going in the 3rd round.

‘22- Tolbert (88th)
‘20- Ceede (17th)
‘18- Gallup (81st)
‘13- TWill (74th)
‘10- Dez (21st)
‘02- Antonio Bryant (63rd)

We’ll see if Jerry changes his trend, but this isn’t the best crop of prospects to convince him.
Tet is the closest thing to a future #1 in my opinion, and that’s with development and some luck. There’s a bunch of guys I can see being good # 2’s as a complimentary option in a good offense, but not worth a top 12 pick imo. When 5 people can argue 5 different opinions on who the #1 and #2 WR should be it’s probably a sign to stay away from that position.

I don’t know why Cowboys fans keep thinking this team needs a corner. If they cut Diggs maybe….
lol why wouldn't they think that????? That's like saying we don't need a DT because we have mazi and osa, corner is a need, you lost diggs for however long, bland is fine I guess (contract year should play all 17 games and play it great!!) lol, the rest are all question marks. Can Carson be the "seatbelt" that people called him in college

Golden or Tet id be thrilled with at 12. WR is by far our biggest need and it’s not even remotely close. I like Goldens fit with Dak a little more, exceptional route runner, but I have Tet a little higher on my board. Would love either. Not a fan of Burden or Egbuka

They literally just traded for Elam, drafted Carson, signed IM….Bland is an All Pro….sign a vet to hold you over until Diggs come back. We have more pressing needs.

We dont have a functional offense w the current weapons we have. Double Lamb and force Tolbert and Turpin to beat you
Cowboys get that running game going like they keep talking about and there is enough weapons with the pass catchers they have to win a bunch of games.

Elam is bad, Bland is in a contract year and Carson was bad last year.

I loved Carson as a prospect so not giving up on him but CB is a massive need.

What I’m saying is this team is clearly trying to build with the draft. Diggs is coming back. We need starters. We can’t fill them all but we need a starting receiver, DT…I’m not saying corner isn’t a need…we just have bigger needs then a corner they won’t use once Diggs comes back.

I agree with your analysis on Golden being the better WR. However, WR isn't the biggest need and it's not even close to being. Mazi Smith n Justin Rogers (0 games played) are you 1Ts, and run defense is the Top priority. You have an Elite WR, and several fill-ins, but Mazi is a below average starter, c'mon now.
