If he isn't the #1 pick be Detroit their fans should riot.

Not necessarily.

They can just follow the same game plan that the Dolphins did in this year's draft. Remember that the Dullphins didn't have a franchise QB entering the draft either and still went with the OT. That was a smart move.

As a matter of fact, it could be a mistake for the Lions to draft Stafford. He's not going to play much in his first year ( or at least he shouldn't anyways ) and if he does, despite the Ryan and Flacco examples, he might get ruined ( see Joey Harrington ). Draft Smith, who is condiered the best player in the draft, see what comes up at #20, and if by any chance Stafford is gone, address it with an early pick in the 2nd round or even one of the two 3rd round draft picks they have.

The Lions have time to draft their QB of the future. It doesn't really have to be this year.

If they took Crabtree it would not be a bad move, but I think they can't because of Millen.

I can see them going OT and Andre Smith, or DL and Orackpo. But given how bad their QBs were and Stanton always hurt, they have to go QB.

Matt Ryan pushed that back to the top. Kid was fantastic.

I got to eat crow on that one, I thought he would fail

Detroit needs a new face for the Franchise. They MUST pick a QB #1.

I hope its not Stafford, though. I like the kid. I wouldnt wish Detroit on anyone.

I didn't, but I didn't think he would be that good either.

It doesn't have to be #1 overall either....if they pass up on one of those OLineman this year then they're stupid.

Is Stafford consistent enough to be a #1 pick? I live in Atlanta, he's had all the throws for some time, but his decision making..

For example, Jeff George had all the throws..

RW11 and some Fig Newtons outta do it.

If we give them Pacman too I hear we can get Calvin Johnson from Detroit along with the #1 overall pick.

So at that point we are the new Detroit.

Johnson, T.O. and Roy Williams. Best WR trio in the league.

Then Wade takes all the ingredients and makes us a 4-12 stew for 2009.

Yummmmm, delicious!!!

Stafford (Georgia - Highland Park) has to decide if he will declare for the NFL.
If he does, does Jerry try for him? Probably a 12-20 pick.

Matthew is pretty young and is too immature to start right away (IMO). But God, this kid has the best arm I have seen in long long time. I lived in Denver for 10 years and got to see Elway play live in about 14 games. I think Stafford has Elway beat as far as arm strength and sometimes accuracy.

He is going to win some Super Bowls if he is given half a chance. I saw him throw a perfect strike of 78 yards in the air, during high school, and it looked like it was no big deal. Of course he was playing my team, but he was just outstanding the whole game. What a joy to watch this kid.

I would love to see him play for the Cowboys, but wanted to here what you guys thought and what his chances of Dallas grabbing him?
One he just as bad Romo he makes to many dumb decisions when throw passes two he the top rated QB.

This time last year, many mocks had Brian Brohm in the top 5-10. Just because he comes out early, it does not assure him of anything.
Betcha a dollar he doesn't drop like Brohm.

Wow - you think he really goes #1?

If he comes out, he's definitely gonna be top-7-10 picks

As a UGA guy though I think he ends up staying for his senior yr, he still has quite a bit to work on and Georgia is going to be a pretty strong team next yr. As talented as he is, he still needs to work on his accuracy and some other things. He isnt ready to play in the NFL.

I think Bradford is going to be a better quarterback. Stafford has never consistently been a dominant qb in college. That doesn't bode well for NFL success. I think his arm strength blinds people a little bit.

If Stafford does end up staying, the 2010 QB class could potentially be special. For this reason alone, I think he'll declare so he can lock up being the first QB taken in this year's draft. If he stays, he may have to compete w/ Bradford as the number #1 QB in 2010, costing him quite a chunk of change if he ends up being the 2nd QB taken.

On a side note, Bradford is eligible for the draft THIS year. I wonder if he'll contemplate declaring if he wins the championship game.

I'm not trying to be a smart***, but I have never really got the "best to stay for another year and work on his game" argument. If the guy is predicted to be in the top 5, then all of the scout people think he has the tools to do the job. So why not collect the mega paycheck next year (or what would be someone's senior year in school), learning the offense and working with NFL QB coaches.

Given that most rookie QBs aren't expected to be able to jump in their first year and a person would have more time to hone their craft and learn the pro offense, I just don't see how waiting really helps someone projected as a top pick.

Almost every expert and draft thing you can find out that has him going in the top five if he comes out.

How anyone got the idea that the guy would fall anywhere near far enough for Dallas to make a move for him is beyond me.

I guess Brady Quinn is another example that people forgot about. Aaron Rodgers was once considered the top overall pick as late as a week out of the draft and he plummeted to the late first round.

These things can happen. The fact this is a QB poor draft like this is more of the reason why, not that it just doesn't happen. Depending on the circumstances, we could move back into the first round, it can be done. There is no way Jones would ever do this, but that is besides the point.

Yes it certainly does happen. There is no denying that. But even if he falls to the 20 spot you're talking about moving up 31 spots in order to draft him. I can't even imagine what you'd have to give up to move up 31 spots to draft him. I can't see this having any possibility, at all, unless he falls into the second round or Jerry and company decide that the backup QB is their only real priority in the draft and they give up a good portion of it to move up from the 50+ spot they're drafting at to get back into the 20-25 range.

And that, of course, is assuming he could fall to the 20-25 range.

I wouldn't say that....the two things that leap out to me are footwork and the deep ball. That's about it. I think his "accuracy" is hurt a lot by the stone-hands that UGA receivers seem to have at times. Lots of dropped passes by that squad's WRs and TEs.

Which reminds me, I still need to pay up for the ridiculous Barbe/Jones bet that we made. :D

Send me the link to the Cowboys apparel of your choice.
