It is early December. The playoffs are a long time away. Anything can happen.

Whoa, get a grip. Even while having problems 20 games in, the Mavs still project to win over 50 games - so it's not the end of the world. Let's at least wait until the all-star break before we start freaking out. There are still a bunch of games left.

If they were 19-0 no one would care, but they lose a few and people start going nuts. Take MC's advice.

You guys don't have anything to worry about until you lose to the Duncan less Spurs ......

Oh wait.

Is that worse than losing to the Wizards minus Gilbert Arenas?

At HOME?

although i always enjoy some mavs bashing and love seeing them suffer, i think its too early for that right now. im just glad the spurs are doing so well without having anyone play lots of minutes, except for bowen, he plays a lot of minutes, but he is a freak of nature.

things to fix the mavs

1. Get rid of this ******** isolation offense
2. Find a PG who can PASS
3. When Dirk gets doubled, CUT TO THE BASKET
4. What happened to the defensive rotations?
5. Find a decent perimeter defender. Eddie Jones and Devean George suck. Devin Harris is our only decent perimeter defender.
6. Give BRANDON BASS more minutes. We need to have 5 guys who can play offense.
7. POINTS IN THE PAINT. POINTS IN THE PAINT. POINTS IN THE PAINT.

Another frustrating loss for the Mavs. It doesn't get easier with the Jazz next.

I agree with the OP. They are done. This isn't like last year. They started slow last year but they had a swagger having been in the finals the previous summer. They were like the Suns in that they were overconfident and slacked off a bit. This team is different. It just looks they are psychologically beaten. They just look dejected particularly Dirk. He has taken it really hard and he is their leader. They just lost that psychological edge. Avery has lost some edge too. That loss to Golden St. really affected them. They will win at least 50 games and make the playoffs but they won't contend for a title this year. It's going to come down to the Spurs, Jazz and Suns for the west.

Trust me not to worry about anything except for the choke artist that is Dirk and once again he failed to add a post up game in the offseason.

Once again you run double and triple teams at him with smaller guys and he struggles way to often with that strategy. If he posted up on the smaller guys every now and then he would be able to pass out of those double teams easier but he continues to settle for jumpers and dribble drives.

Any ways as long as the team is set to make the playoffs they will be fine you should worry if the Mavs start to struggle after the all star break that is when you should start cranking up the heat on your playoff push.

The Spurs are a classic example of that

Let's be realistic, Dirk is never going to develop a post up game. A lot of big men don't have a post up game including Amare Stoudemire and Josh Howard. Howard and Stoudemire drives to the basket but they doesn't have turnaround jumpers or low post moves. Howard and Stoudemire succeed because they are extremely agile and quick for power forwards and can beat you with their athleticism in the low post. But there are very few big men that actually have offensive moves off the glass. That's why the Spurs are so dominant. There is no one in the NBA that can really do that anymore except Duncan, Bosh and Shaq when healthy. It's a lost art.

Dirk was doing well last year because he was at least dribble penetrating and driving to the lane off the head fake. He went out of his comfort zone to do that. However, he has regressed to his old ways and just took jumpers against Golden State and this season. That's what always held the Mavericks back. When the Mavs went to the finals, Dirk was playing fearless and attacking the rim with dunks and drives.

There we go sthe great players work on their game and adding wrinkles. I am not saying Dirk needs to go to the block every time. I still say if he learn a decent post game and went down their every so often he could back of those double teams and get his open shot.

What teams are starting to do with Dirk is put smaller quicker guys on him because he has a harder time time dribbling pas them and they send the double team to his dribbling hand. So he has settled into trying to shot jumpers over them.
