Poor execution by the players has played a part. Lack of confidence/swagger has played a part. But I think the fans have played a part, too. Mavs fans went nuts after the GS series, calling to blow up the team. Then they said all offseason it didn't matter if the Mavs won all their games, it didn't matter. Now the team is struggling to stay motivated in the regular season (big surprise if it 'doesn't matter') and fans are bailing on them a quarter of the way through the season.

Fans make a difference (see Oracle Arena in the GS playoff series).

you know, in the 2002-2003 season at this point the spurs were 12-9 and everyone was writing them off, can you remind me who won the championship that year? most of you mavs fans must not have been following basketball for very long, bandwagon fans??

I'd like to redo that series without Dirk getting injured in the WCF. and freaking Steve Kerr. That was the best Nellie team. Nick bailed us out so much.

Well, if you do that you have to insert Webber back into the Kings series in the 2nd round.

That was a fun ride. We were running on fumes in game six but had a big lead - I still hold a grudge against Kerr for those deadly 3's :laugh2: but he's hard not to like. Oh well...

Wasn't there a lot of speculation about the Spurs ditching Tony Parker for Jason Kidd after that year? Funny how things change...

ya, he had really struggled in the finals against kidd, and he struggled in the finals against billups. if it wasnt for speedy claxton in 03 and barry at PG on offense and bowen guarding billups on defense, we might have 2 less rings. i just wonder how good we would be if speedy was still our backup and stephen jackson would have stayed.

I bet Speedy had wished he had stayed, too.

Stephen Jackson would be a beast in SA. He wasn't as crazy back then, if I remember right.
