Mavs Trade Luka to Lakers

Those 2 guys had final say but yea they sought no consensus whatsoever. Cuba tried to veto the deal, but it was too late.

At least this is the message we are being given, and no one is challenging that.
Yea ....... those 2 did not value Luka and thought the fans would not react like they did ...... rich people in bubbles who do not care what their customers think.

They probably should’ve kept him then for money reasons alone lol.
Exactly! It never made sense on any front.
The wild conspiracy theories exist because they are the only things that make sense.

Mavs were coming off finals run that had home seats nearly unpurchasable due to cost via resell price.
You were 1st in home seat attendance average.
Luka was the 6th best-selling jersey in the NBA. AD wasn't in the top 15. Neither was Kyrie.

At this point I am hoping that part of a monster collusion with NBA was that Dallas tanks to get ping pong balls and Dallas gets awarded a top 3 pick as the pay off.
Thats how down bad it is for Mavs fans now.

When I first saw the trade I thought Luka had a year or so left to live or something and even then I don’t know if it made sense lol. Not letting teams bid for Luka is what was criminal. I can live with trading him. To not allow. Bidding war just made no sense. They wanted to blindside Luka and Cuban for some reason.

They would’ve never got that but that’s what I thought it would take to get Luka from the Mavs.
They were not going to get that from LA, but they could have gotten very near that total in assets had they put him on the block openly.
Amass a 3-team or even 4-team trade but you HAD toget the assets to rebuild.

Utah and OKC have a ton of picks. NYK probably still has a ton.

Any team trading for Luka expects those picks to be mid or worse R1.
Or you just don't make the trade, period.

The picks yeah. I’m saying getting those picks and AD wasn’t happening. Which would’ve been ok the point was to get picks and future picks. Or even 3 first rounders are cool with AD.

AD did not have a large value around the league.
He was playing VERY WELL but his injury history, age and salary was strongly against any team wanting to jump on his deal.
He is going to average 58.5M per season over the next 3 seasons.
He will cost more than KD or Giannis or Jayson Tatum next year.
He is scheduled to make 6M more than LeBron. 7th highest cap hit.

Luka, meanwhile, will likely play out his deal on 46M next year. So Luka is 12M CHEAPER!!!

LAL was smart as a whip here. They shipped him off at his highest value since they traded for him.

The Mavs couldn't get Knecht or Reaves in the deal so had to ask for multiple R1 picks.

What they took back is a travesty on a national level. Thats why it seems a conspiracy to boost LA.
They got better on the floor and will save about 20M next year in salaries assuming they stretch waive Maxi next year.

I disagree. I think AD has value. He’s still one of the best players in the league and one of the best big men. He’s valued. Injuries and all someone will give you a few firsts. Lakers tried to trade for everyone not named AD because they promised to build the team around him. But when Luka got involved it was a no brainer.

Great post

That’s the thing. I don’t believe any of these guys. It’s gonna come out why one day. But I don’t think that reason has been explained yet and I’m not buying Nico had the power to trade Luka. That was a order.
I agree. There is no way a trade of this magnitude gets pushed through without someone higher than Nico getting a phone call from the league office sending a "are you sure" courtesy call.

The money and investment in Luka was too high for this to be a regular trade. This was a franchise altering move. The fact that Nico is the fall guy for this and the owners who 100% were in on this have not come out to take him off the hook and own up to this makes this worse in my book.

Yep and meanwhile they sit back and let Nico get death threats while they sit back smh.

Luka who?

Lakers can't count on a player who can only play a slow motion half court 3 minute stint before needing oxygen.

Dallas won the trade.
