Mavs Trade Luka to Lakers

Its now May and people are still in their feelings about Luka....wait until you see what Flag becomes....a actual good two way player.
Just an FYI.

Just because someone is pro-Luka doesn’t mean that they are anti-Flagg. Don’t start that narrative. It isn’t true whatsoever.

In fact, I assume most of us here are pro-Flagg, and we have no doubt that he is going to be a great player.

And also keep in mind… Most of us would have been okay with the Luka trade if the Mavericks had actually received a fair trade compensation for him instead of getting bent over backwards. That’s what the problem was.

Now, if the actual trade that the NBA orchestrated behind the scenes was Luka in exchange for AD + Flagg + Christie + a 2029 1st round pick…
That would have maybe been a more fair compensation package.

I don’t think anyone is anti Flagg other than those that hope he stinks for Nico.

And you may feel that way but no one wanted Luka traded. It could’ve been for MJ in his prime and people would be pissed. And I’m not saying they don’t have a right. We all have our favorites. I’m just shocked it’s lasted this long.
There’s no way to trade a Luka and get value. People will say they wanted a million picks well great a million late round picks lol. Can’t trade him forWemby or Sga or Ant….

What is a reasonable deal you would’ve accepted for Luka? I don’t think there is one:

Nothing fair about that at all lol. Realistically….I’d say sub out AD for Austin Reeves to make it more fair.

You cannot debate with folks willing to embarrass themselves deliberately to prolong arguments rather than admit they were wrong and move on.
Just say the most cringeworthy nonsense ever.
I am not arguing with Kendrick Perkins level IQs.

Dallas was never winning the Luka trade.
You never give up the best player in a deal and you certainly don't give up the best player when that player is far younger.
AD is a top 30 player. He rises to top 10 when fully healthy for months at a time but than that is often short-lived.
Again, this isn't about opinions we can check his totals for NBA all 1st and 2nd team.

LA sold him at a high (even though he was currently injured). Dallas had a similar player in KP and should have known better.

Luka will be great next season. And likely for most of the 5-7 seasons after that as well.

Dallas will be trying to decide that first 30 games if they can compete for a title next year and if not, they will be looking for a trading partner for AD before the trade deadline.

The team has to reshape now totally which likely means losing Gafford and PJ which were elite trade pick-ups by the same goofy GM that undercut himself fresh off a trip to the NBA Finals.

The thing is I understand why Nico is lying. You can't out the NBA. I will never understand people with actual brains repeating those nonsense talking points.
All that, but it's hard to win a championship in any sport at any level w/o D. Luca is the worst defender in the NBA. Not sure there's a close 2nd.

Your entire post was fine, but why didn't you deal w/ that? Kinda makes your post a bit irrelevevant. If not, tell me why.

Exactly. The sooner people wake up and realize the NBA rewarded the Mav's with the #1 overall to move Luka to the Lakers, it all just comes together. Nico isn't some fool, he is playing his part that Adam Silver asked him to play. If they are willing to do this, what else is staged when it comes to sports entertainment.
I didn't believe it at first either, but dammmmm it sure is a coincidence.

Well the question that I’ve asked that doesn’t get answers is why would other teams be ok with that happening? Jazz and Wiz tanked and the Raptors…not only did they not get 1 but they weren’t even in the top 3. The top 3 went to teams that could’ve been playoff teams this year. Why would talent starved teams agree?

You say you can’t debate with Kendrick Perkins level iqs but call AD a top 30 player and say KP was similar…..

Silver didn't even hide it when talking about how much the ratings were up after the Luka trade.
Lakers were immediately pushed to every national TV slot available.

Dallas was brutalized financially but then amazingly they hit on one of the longest shot moves up ever in Lottery history.

I’m assuming the league revenue shares just like the nfl so that could play a part. The idea was LeBron and Luka would make it to the finals imo but it didn’t work out that way

The vast majority of the NBA money is earned collectively through national media deals. They had 24 Billion in deals with ESPN, ESPN, TNT and it ran out after this season.
They badly needed Lakers to have a major TV draw. They agreed to a 76 Billion 11-year deal in June or July.
I am sure they knew the Lakers would fall well short given they had no center at all, but it was a long-term play that massively upgraded ratings and gives the Lakers a go forward path a media partner can bet on.
Its really no different than Fox forcing the Big 10 to add USC/UCLA for that media market against the Big 10 presidents wishes.
Media partners pay the bills and get to make a lot of the rules.

14 of the 30 teams lost money last year before collecting the revenue sharing income. Local/Regional TV is often a sunk cost or low margin effort for anything but the biggest brands.

There was plenty of chatter about the NBA struggling with lower ratings as it came up for renewal with media rights in general being tougher sells than they used to be.

Now all of a sudden Silver is crowing about higher ratings and targeting Seattle and Las Vegas for expansion.
