Maybe we should sign Mathis

That is immaterial. Dez wants a long term contract, but that has nothing to do with the fact that his money is already allocated and has nothing to do with our cap space going forward.

I guess you know more so than I.

We don't need a pro bowl guard who has become available because of our rival's gross mismanagement.

What an awesome position to be in!

Chip really must thing his scheme can win over talent. In this league, the NFL talent wins. The eagles are a much less talented team today than when chip took over.

I decided to mosey on over to enemy territory and see all the moaning and groaning going on over on the Eagles website regarding the Mathis release. You know, to basque in the glory of some iggle frustration.

What did I find?

Nothing! I mean nada. Not even a mention! Crickets!

Guess the writers are afraid to touch this one.

He would definitely be an upgrade over what we currently have and would probably assure the fact that the RBs we have signed would be able to fill the void of Murray's departure. Would probably allow leverage on Leary as well, or, allow us to trade him. Having said all of this, we don't need him. He would be great to have but we don't need him. All he would do is increase the cap and prevent younger players from getting much needed reps.

He'll be a Giant before the end of the day. It's a shame too cause he's really good.

I know some Eagles fans, and their standard mantra for all of this is change.

They point to the sad fact that their favorite team has never won a championship as a defense for the sweeping changes Kelly is making. The usual line given is:

"We've tried it the other way for so long and haven't won a championship, why not try something different?"

So, basically, they're so desperate that they're willing to go along with just about anything.

Have you reminded them that their team has never won it as an Offensive team either? Maybe just educate them to the fact that they've never won it period. Just cover all your bases.

BTW, I'm sorry. I noticed that you posted a statement that suggest Tragedy. Never easy to deal with those kinds of things. You have my very sincere condolences.

I think that is BS.

Leary is a beast. You watch end to end camera angles and he stands out.

If he puts his hands on any defensive tackle they move.

I don't. Mathis is light years better. Heck, he's a Pro Bowl Guard and an All Pro in 2013. He's much better then Leary an one of the top 5 at his position, arguably.

Yeah but Mathis was starting to slip and Leary is a 26 year old that's about to enter his prime.

Also, at the LOS I don't see how you can get much better then Leary. Maybe he struggles a tad in space but at the point of contact there isn't too many guys better.

I think the difference comes down to pass protection. Mathis is more solid in that area. And while Leary is stronger, Mathis is no slouch in the run game either as he was a key part of a line that helped McCoy have great success.

I have not seen Mathis starting to slip. I think he's still playing at a very high level. No question, that Leary's strength is being able to use power against you but the statement about, "not too many guys better", Mathis is in that group of not too many. He's seriously one of the best at his position in the game right now IMO.

Mathis wouldn't get on the field. He's a more expensive Mackenzy Bernadeau.

Actually, none of the Eagles linemen, including the guys they still have, would start on this line. Not being cocky, just stating a fact.

Ha! Let's see here... Kelce could start and Peters would definitely start. Mathis is about 3 leagues better than Leary.

He's just better, technique wise and he's got better feet, more mobility to go with a lot of natural strength. He understands how to put it all together and use it in the Run Blocking Zone scheme. He's really very good. It's a real shame we don't need him. We are going to have to face him in NY I suspect and that sucks. I wonder how much he wants to play for. I mean, it's almost worth it to make sure that the Giants don't get him. He would help them a lot! We could then just move Collins to RT and start getting him ready to be the guy there while still being able to back up at LG. We could trade Leary before his contract is up, if that's what the team wanted to do and then see what we have in Gibson, Green and Weems. Would also allow us to trade Free if we wanted to do that. All of this assumes he doesn't want crazy money. I think his salary for 2015 was 6.5 Million. It's probably a pipe dream.

A very nice dream, but yeah, just that I fear.

Yeah, probably but if you were able to trade Free (which would be tough because of his rehab) the dollars might not be so bad.

Yeah, but you're making an assumption that I'm not ready to make. That Collins, Weems, or Green would be an adequate fill-in for Free.
