Yeah, the Next Man Up thing is just so incredibly stupid. Every player is different and brings different strengths and weaknesses to the game. No way should a team just pay more and more and more just because his contract is up. Dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's wild to me that some of ya'll think there isn't a group of QB's that could come in here with the same team & do as well as or better than Dak. I'm not talking about the elite QB's, I'm talking about the group ya'll pretend Dak is better than.
It's also wild to me that "Next man up gets the record deal, that's just the way it works" talk goes out the window when discussing those QB contracts.
Team him up with CDee & Pickens.....he'd put up stats in #6 range also.....He's about #15..... that's where most people have him:

Of course they went back to Stafford, Baker was in town for all of one week. I never suggested trading Dak for Mayfield but I would certainly be interested in letting Dak walk when he wants another $60m+ for his next contract when Baker could be had for less. At that point new blood at the position would be strongly needed imo, unless of course Dak gets his SB trophy this year.Baker stepped in when Stafford got hurt and had an explosive offense talent with the Rams, am I right? He played well too, so why didn't the Rams keep him as a starter?
Most likely because he wasn't on Stafford's level, correct? I know you weren't the one who originally said it, but I was responding to the person who claimed they would trade Dak for Baker.
Unless Baker came with a 1st and and multiple 2nd round pics, how much sense does it make to trade a higher graded player for a lower one and the same position?
what happens to those numbers if you take out the years on crap organizations?
I get your point but he really has to insist on getting his worth (at least in the ball park). He's 31 now so age is starting to become an issue. He has overcome the incompetence he was surrounded by early in his career & proven he can do the job. It's not his problem that he seems to be caught in the wrong time with a team that is looking to clean house next year. Cap just keeps going up so no reason for him to take less than players like Dak, Love, Lawrence have taken for contracts already on the books.Yeah, the Next Man Up thing is just so incredibly stupid. It's been said the Mayfield wants to win really badly. His insistence on 50 mil per year says otherwise.
And talk about a lack of respect. The Bucs gave Mayfield 100 mil over 3 years when no one else was offering. But now, he wants a team strapping contract that makes sure the Bucs won't win. This screams that Mayfield doesn't care about winning after all.

Sure it is. To consider how two players in exactly the same situation would produce is a common way of evaluating.Well organizations aren't usually considered here when we're talking about quarterback vs quarterback production,
He was filling in. Stafford is a tier 1 talent. He was never sticking around unless Stafford was out of the picture with injury or something. The Rams didn't have a bad team, so why didn't McVay stick with Mayfield?
The same organization that also had Darnold & let him walk?? C'mon, we aren't seriously using that time period for the Panthers as competent player evaluation are we?He couldn't solidify the starting spot to get a long term contract in Carolina over their options?
Why? Baker is more mobile, younger & makes higher level throws on a more consistent basis. He is a playmaker, not a take the play if it's there guy.But for people to say they would trade Dak for Baker is totally asinine.
Sounds familiar...Mayfield is a mid tier QB worth around 30-35 mil/per. He's plagued w/ inconsistencies. Don't be fooled by his competitive fire(which is tops in the league), and leadership, he's just a decent QB. Pay him 50 mil and your chances at a super bowl go away.

yeah, trading dak for baker is moronic. replacing dak with baker for 30 mil less apy is notI’m not going to say that Baker is better than Dak, but Baker is a really good example of why I wouldn’t be married to the idea that you have to have to extend your QB no matter what.
15 years ago it was terrifying to lose a QB without someone waiting down the depth chart. Now it’s not all that difficult to find an average producer if you have some weapons for them to utilize.
Or trading an up and coming qb for a haul then getting a baker/Darnold type.yeah, trading dak for baker is moronic. replacing dak with baker for 30 mil less apy is not
name them, and build the case then? who do we pretend dak's better than, that would come in and do better than him? It's wild to me that some of ya'll think there isn't a group of QB's that could come in here with the same team & do as well as or better than Dak. Then he should be happy. Teams were not straining at the leash to sign Mayfield when he was available. Tampa Bay made him an offer and he signed it. So, it is “his problem that he seems to be caught in the wrong time with a team that is looking to clean house next year”.I get your point but he really has to insist on getting his worth (at least in the ball park). Open market, I can't see him not getting multiple offers for what he's asking.
That's really the thing. You sacrifice maybe some productivity at the QB position to put that money into the defense. Honestly, I'm not sure the productivity would fall off that much with all of the offensive weapons on this team. Now if Baker is looking for top QB money, then no it doesn't make a lot of sense if you're just comparing their stats.yeah, trading dak for baker is moronic. replacing dak with baker for 30 mil less apy is not
I’m not sure why you are attacking me over a difference in opinion. Dak seems to wilt consistently in big games. So you would worsen your overall quarterback production for what? I'll tell you what. Tell me what team has ever traded a higher ranked, more accomplished quarterback for a lower ranked and less accomplished quarterback in every quarterbacking category?
What team in NFL history has purposely worsened a position via trade with a lower ranked player in the same position. Please make what you said make sense because I really don't want to assume that you have absolutely no clue how football works.
I appreciate the respect & I respect your opinion as well.I got a lot of respect for you. I really do, but this is your justification for being will to trade Dak for Baker Mayfield?
Dak is a perennial top 10 quarterback every season he's finished healthy, Dak has become an All-Pro and MVP candidate, Dak has a career QBR of 98.3.
Baker Mayfield has been top 10 once in his career, never been an All-Pro, and has a career QBR rating of 91.2.
Baker Mayfield has never been better than Dak at any category of quarterbacking except for his legs, so here's my question for you. What team has ever traded a quarterback or any other player on the team for a player that has worse production in that same position?
Please give me the name of the team that has traded a better player for a lesser producing player in that same position. When has this been done before, and why would you want the Cowboys to be the first to do something like this?
