Dont subscribe to the pay stuff, but here's the blurb:

@NFLRumorCentral Mike Mayock says LSU's Peterson may be better as a safety in the #NFL. How does this affect his draft stock?

I dont know what the whole article says, but the above I do believe. I've never thought he was a Deion or Mike Haynes type CB prospect.

we can only hope he falls into our laps at 9 and do not need to trade up it will be like getting dez bryant all over again...lol

I like both him and Prince as safeties, especially on this team.

I really think if we were to get Peterson and put him at FS, it would immensely improve our secondary and defense, overall. Assuming we get him at 9, we could still take a shot at a top OT in the 2nd. I'd be happy with that.

I think he's a CB, but I don't care as long as we get him. Would you take Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu at #9? I would.

PP has as much as anyone to lose at the combine. He's either slimmed down to under 210 or has always been at that weight with LSU fudging the numbers.

If his hips are more fluid than previously thought, he'll be top five. If he's stiff, the questions will continue.

Sure, if you knew he was that type of player.

The potential of moving him to FS and having him pan out bigtime there is one reason I would take him. But I dont think he's a sure thing at CB at all.

I'd still rather look at other positons with our first pick, whether its at 9 or lower via a trade down.

Just do not see what all the hype is about. Have been able to watch several of his games lately on the net and I just do not see all that much.

You dont notice the CB?

Good

well according to some he is supposed to be a play maker which should mean he gets noticed.

Theres only so much a DB can do. Unless you are Troy Polamalu and try to be the hero of every single play.

Peterson projects as a do it all player. Bump and run, 1 on 1, run support, pick-6, force fumbles, punt returner. He can cover his man all game and still make a play. As opposed to a DeAngelo Hall/Asante Samuel who can pick a pass off but get beat too much

As I originally stated. Hes like Dez Bryant on defense. He can just change things in a blink

I agree with Mayock. But, I also think he will be a dominant Free Safety and we should still trade up a few spots if he falls.

Thinking out loud here..I am thinking Cleveland is our most likely trade partner. If somehow Peterson falls to 6, I think there is a chance we move up and get him.

First and foremost, cle took Haden last year, so they may not want to go db in rd 1 again. We also need to hope that whoever they are looking for is already off the board.

Couple that with JJs good relationship with Holmgren and I think you have a deal. If things can fall the right way for us, we might be in business.

Just draft the fool if you can. Then put him on the field and figure out which position he plays better. A top CB is a great thing to have as they can shutdown one half of the field, but a safety can overall dominate a game better than a CB.

Players like Ed Reed, Steroid Boy Troy, Ronnie Lott, etc are easily worth a top 5 pick.

What if AJ Green is on the board for Cle at 6?

Cincy at 4 is interesting. They could take Cam Newton as an insurance policy(or even just because they are Cincy). Or they can take AJ Green to try and convince Palmer to change his mind.

I guess I hope they take AJ Green. There are other teams who need a QB anyway, and having AJ Green off the board should make Cleveland more receptive to a trade down. They can target Julio Jones or Dareus at 9.

I think Cleveland shouldn't be taking a WR at 6. If they were smart, they would be drafting defensive lineman.

If you have a young WB you need to get him some playmakers. If McCoy struggles next year they are back to square 1. Cleveland and STL should and will be all over Green/Julio Jones

Yeah, Green is someone I think we need off the board by pick 6..

Carolina- not taking Peterson..not at 1
Denver- very possible
Bills-semi possible
Bengals- don't need db help..not taking him
Cardinals-very well could take him

We need to dodge 2 or 3 picks for PP to fall to 6..

I thought this was a given, I think he'd be a good FS option for us, he's got the size and the cover ability. FS's have more opportunities to impact an opponents passing game these days than CB's do. It's not a position we can continue to skimp on.

You can still drop him into the slot to cover a guy one on one, drop him back and let him play center field, etc. You can just do so much more with a safety with cover skills than you can with just a pure CB.
