Mayock on Patrick Peterson

Just do not see what all the hype is about. Have been able to watch several of his games lately on the net and I just do not see all that much.

me too ...he is not seeing things like he should already and putting him at safety might be a disaster...Hos says the kid is a stud waiting to happen so he may be the real deal... but I just don't see it... but it wouldn't be the first time I didn't see something.

Some are predicting he'll be the 2nd or 3rd player off the board, but I don't see it.

The only CB's to go in the Top 5 in the last 10 years are:

Eric Berry (FS/SS) - 2010 (5h Overall)
Sean Taylor (FS) - 2004 (5th Overall)
Terence Newman (CB) - 2003 (5th Overall)
Quentin Jammer (CB) - 2002 (5th Overall)

Notice a trend?

Out of all those people, given it's too early to tell on Berry, neither of the CB's taken have set the world on fire. Neither Newman or Jammer has become the face of their respective defenses in the way a Revis, Woodson or Asomugha has.

Sean Taylor was a legit safety and Berry looks to be pretty legit as well, but of course they actually had experience at the position in college.

From this we can also see two things:

1. NO DB has gone before the 5th pick in the last decade.
2. Spending a Top 5 pick on a CB is a relative waste of the pick. If you're going to do take a DB, you spend it on a safety, not a cornerback.

I don't think Peterson goes in the Top 4 picks, 5th is a possibility but Arizona is probably looking QB. So odds are, we're looking at battling Cleveland for his services at the earliest.

For the reasons you described, thats why I wouldn't trade up for him. If your trading up for a player, there shouldn't be any question marks. Now if Peterson is there at #9, then sure, nab him. The Cowboys do not have alot of picks to be trading up, and they need those picks to fill holes on the O-Line, ILB, and D-Line, among other spots.

Yeah, Green is someone I think we need off the board by pick 6..

Carolina- not taking Peterson..not at 1
Denver- very possible
Bills-semi possible
Bengals- don't need db help..not taking him
Cardinals-very well could take him

We need to dodge 2 or 3 picks for PP to fall to 6..

Carolina - Fairley.
Denver - hinges on the Champ Bailey situation.
Bills - Need front 7 help in the worst way.
Bengals - Probably will be looking for a QB.
Cardinals - in love with Cam Newton.

Terence Newman was taken by the Dallas Cowboys #5 overall in the 2003 NFL Draft, 8 years ago.

Hmm. I wouldn't let my draft plans hinge on a soon-to-be 33 year old CB.

He said *before* the 5th pick. He even noted the Newman pick earlier in the same post.

Thank you, I thought I was losing my mind. :laugh2:

Sure, if you knew he was that type of player.

The potential of moving him to FS and having him pan out bigtime there is one reason I would take him. But I dont think he's a sure thing at CB at all.

I'd still rather look at other positons with our first pick, whether its at 9 or lower via a trade down.
Not that it is worth a spit, but I do.

Guys, Champ is leaving Den.

PP will go 2nd.

There is one way he gets [ast Denver and that's only because from every time I bring the Broncos up I'm told they are trying like hell to shop that pick.

Maybe so, but I can't see them dropping below 9. If they do trade down, assuming they still pick before us, and Champ leaves, PP will be the pick either way. In other words Denvers his floor. Assuming we don't trade up.

I would concur that he'll go to Denver at #2. They'll take whoever they can on defense.

He's Antrelle Rolle to me.

That's what I'd be afraid of, too.

It's almost axiomatic that when you start talking about a supposed top corner moving to safety, he's not really a top corner. Which great corner over the last decade was talked about like that? No one seriously talked about it with Revis, Bailey, Deion, etc.

And as far as PP going to Denver... I dunno. Fox seems like a front-seven guy to me. Seems like he always had lower first rounders or less at corner. Maybe the closest was when they paid quite a bit for Lucas several years ago.

Drafting a FS at #9 just doesn't seem wise to me...especially since he's not even experienced at the position.

Hearing the Broncos are starting to lean more toward DE Da'Quan Bowers with that number 2 pick, move to 43, he makes perfect sense #NFLDRAFT

So far so good.

There is a very real chance Peterson will fall to 6..I don't know how badly we want Peterson or if we want him at all..but I am thinking if we really want him we will have a chance to trade with Cleveland to get him. Me being completely honest, I am not certain Peterson is the player we need the most right now..even if we didn't have to move up to get him, which we will have to, i am still not positive he's our biggest need..

Marcell Dareus or a trade down OT is what we need.
