I would like this player in rd 2
There really isn't any way he would last that long. Besides, he is a smurf WR.

If we want a small WR who is also a return guy, I'd rather have Dexter Jackson in round 3 than DeSean Jackson in the first.

I think its just one of those things where somebody wants to "go against the grain" in the smallish hope that he would be right, he could come back later and say "see, I was the only one who told you"

nobody in their right mind could rate Mendenhall ahead of McFadden...you cant even legitimately make the argument

I do. McFadden is a beast but he does run a bit upright, is longer and leaner than most RBs and in fact is built more like a sprinter than a RB.

He ran a lot from the QB position and is so gifted it is breathtaking but at times it looked like Felix Jones was the more natural RB.

For all the hoopla over AD remember he did get injured and that was from the same upright, non-elusive running style McFadden displays.

Mendenhall has his own crazy athleticism but in a more compact, natural RB mold.

Not saying I agree but I can see whta he is saying.

.

he didnt run "alot"...he ran some...alot of time when he lined up in that position it was 1) short yardage 2) a handoff to Jones or another back or 3) ended up a passing play where he threw the ball

the vast majority of his runs were from the I formation

also, if you are going to ding McFadden for that formation, you cant not mention that Mendenhall ran virtually every oen of his plays from the spread option, where really no skill players have had any success in the NFL after playing in that style in college

McFadden was also vastly mor productive for 3 seasons, against much better competition

Thats why I think its ridiculous for someone like Mayock to suggest mendenhall is a betetr prospect than McFadden today...its not a guarantee that McFadden will definitely be better, but today its pretty lame to "predict" he wont be

As suspected, these are getting much closer to realistic rankings. It's disheartening that he'd go through this whole process of putting out ridiculous rankings and then constantly revising them until the day of the draft when his final rankings come out. I don't remember him doing that before.

He really threw his boy Flowers under the bus, didn't he?

Yeah, that slow 40 time really killed his ranking.

Who cares if he thinks Mendenhall really is better? Is that a friggen crime? Even if he doesn't believe it and is just saying it to say it, again who cares? He's not hurting anyone. Neither one of them should be a bad pick up so it's really not that big a deal.

hahaha, Flowers went from "OMG, BEST CB EVAR!" to #5 on Mayocks rating after the combine. Nice one.

How Devin Thomas finagled his way into being the #1 WR in this draft is anyone's guess.

Yeah, if you just watch 3-4 games of each player, you could probably come away thinking that Mendenhall was better based on the way he translates to the NFL. He's a much more "conventional" looking back. But then you have to go and ignore just how damned productive McFadden was in the SEC being the sole weapon on offense.

DMac was a stud in a tough conferance, no doubt about it. Felix Jones wasn't too shabby against them, either, when he got the shot to run the ball. The dude averaged close to 10 YPC, I believe (Could be wrong on what I remember reading), when he got into games.

I don't think either will be bad backs but I do think Dmac will turn out to be one of the better backs picked in the last 2-3 years.

Measurables and production.

He had a better year than all the other top WRs in the country last year and outside of Hardy it wasn't even close as he smoked them by over 500 yards.

He also has the best measurables of all of them this side of Caldwell.

Well I can only go by the few highlight videos that I've seen. And from those I was MUCH more impressed by Jamaal Charles than McFadden. I came away from McFadden and Felix Jones' videos impressed more by the Arkansas line than anything else.

Lots of people here seem to love Ray Rice, and I'm not saying they're wrong. But has Mayock commented on why he doesn't make the top five?

With Malcom Kelly not running, and having injury question marks, it shows you just how weak of a WR class we have this year at the top of the heap. I really do like this years WR class when when looking for the later rounds of the draft. I am do not see a true 1st tier or second tier WR in the group. For clarification purposed, I see a first tier WR as a TOP 5 quality pick type of player (Calvin Johnson, Roy Williams, Braylon Edwards, Larry Fitzgerld). The second tier to me is the sure thing first round picks, that could easily go in the middle of the first round to the right team (Lee Evans, Michael Clayton, Donte' Stallworth) type of players. I see 3rd tier or WR's 7 deep this year, with it being a toss up between Devin Thomas, James Hardy, Malcolm Kelly, Limas Sweed, Desean Jackson, Mario Manningham, Early Doucet. To me the third tier of WR's are the guys that are more of a mid to early second round type of WR. Some will get drafted in the late first, some will fall to the late second round. There is also alot of depth to me at the 4th tier of WR's.

He also only had one year of good production, when was the last time a guy with one year of good production managed to surpass a bunch of tested guys (only after the season was over, mind you) and become talked about as the #1 receiver?

This must be a particularly weak receiver class for something like that to happen.
