A first rounder is a bust if he's searching for a niche role. Everyone understands players develop over time. But the simple fact is every week we all watch defensive tackles on other teams contribute WAY more than he has in years 1 and 2.
No that's not how it works 'cause you get offset it balances out you get a guy like Duran bland in the fourth round you get guys like Kansas City find a starting running back in the seventh round this is absolutely finding players in the draft to fit on your team that's a fan thing but once the draft is over the only way they're a bust is if they're not on your team the next season or before the end of their contract they're not resigned and they're not anywhere in the NFL to be found so you have your opinion I'm telling you you're wrong it's not a fact it's not simple you have to look at drafts as finding players including the undrafted players taken out of college as part of that offseason draft they just slipped out of the draft but some of those guys are better than the 5th 6th or 7th rounders that we took you have to count them that year you're looking to fill your roster with players sometimes you have to flip them like when I look at it this way Ezekiel Elliott wasn't a big deal because we found our quarterback in the fourth round you just flipped those positions we found in that draft a starting franchise quarterback and a great running back..
It's about perspective you have none you wanna pigeonhole Oh my God if he's not like a frontline starter in the first round he's a bust not if he's being picked in the bottom of the first round he's almost in the second round by that time picking in every round in the bottom 10 or the bottom 5 of each one of those rounds i'll be in the next round....
Nah go see the 13th overall pick if you were just talking about Smith then look at Jordan Davis for the Philadelphia Eagles been in this League One more year then Smith I haven't seen his numbers he don't look from a stats standpoint and I haven't heard his name very much as a game wrecker and he was taking 13 that to me is ridiculous because you need a guy like Aaron Donald from that spot right I mean you need a guy like some of these top D tackles if you're taking a guy in the top 13 you better be good but I don't hear his name I just looked at his stats it looks like he's a ghost but I'm betting in the games when you really go look it's not the same as a three tech pass rushing hybrid defensive tackle or defensive end that can stop numbers you can't always judge guys by the way fans do so but I'd rather compare those two and even though Jordan Davis came from a better school with more hype he was taking 13th overall that would be a much bigger mistake than 27th overall mozzie Smith who is one year behind so he's still learning just some perspective man you need to stop with the nonsense but you wanna call the bus go ahead but most of us don't see it that way the team don't see it that way so you're gonna be alone on a little island with about like 5% of you that look at it that way..
I'm not saying he's expendable but you also look at the defensive tackle position it's the most rotated position in the NFL some of them have an elite frontline starter but like all over the rest of the roster a team builds outside your top 10 or 15 really good players with role players they're literally rotational guys or guys that can just do their jobs really solid but they don't do anything special the NFL is full of those dude seriously what the hell you been watching?
Trying to tell me that the bill Bates types don't count there are those all over rosters and I just picked them out of my head because he's one of those guys people didn't like Jeff heath but he is one of those guys the rosters are all full around the NFL more players like that than there are elite top ten players because you can't fill a roster with a salary cap full of Pro Bowl players it doesn't work that way and I know you're not gonna wanna hear it but you're allowed your opinion I'm not saying Smith is it underperforming or what's a bad pick I'm just saying that's not how you look at the rounds and the drafts you literally have to judge the draft by the draft itself and how many of those players are on your roster if they can help in any way in my opinion they're not a bust...
But it's a bonus when you do find that elite player anywhere in the draft we got em all over here... Cowboys been pretty good at finding 3rd and 4th rounders that are really good and that'll offset mistakes made in the top rounds if you don't see it that way too bad that's the way I look at it I'm a big picture guy I use common sense....
