Mazi or Guyton, who are you ready to go to battle with?

I think Mazi’s upside is a 30/35 snap run defender. A role player. Nothing more.

Guyton I am not sure has the discipline to play tackle in the NFL.

So they both are mediocre at best. Mazi has a path although never a star. Guyton may not work out but he should have another year to see.

Bold> I would agree if Tyler Guyton was not protecting right-handed quarterbacks at this level. To me, his handwork and footwork were too slowly coordinated during his rookie season. Pass rushers were either outmuscling or finessing him too often. And he was a tick behind when defensive coordinators schemed an extra blitzer to his side when he was left on an island by himself.

In my opinion, Guyton must improve his left tackle discipline this season. A lot. If he cannot cut it, it would be wise for him to move over to right tackle. See if he can put it all together on the opposite side. I do not think he is a lost cause for the NFL. Just that he may likely be playing out of position.

Mazi….

When the scout nails the draft profile:

Weaknesses

  • Hasn’t made many plays behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Motor runs out of gas when tempo heats up.
  • Slow reaction to movement gets him sealed.
  • Struggled against Iowa’s zone scheme attack.
  • Surprising lack of anchor consistency against double teams.
  • Unlikely to see many passing downs as a pro.

game tape told the tale but our brilliant Front Office thought of potential and nothing else

I'm the one always screaming for DT picks, and I hated this pick from the start. Especially since there were much better DT's available in that draft. Keeanu Benton, for example, who PITT took in the 2nd.
