I just can’t imagine firing MM after consecutive 12 win playoff seasons . Regardless who’s available.

Remember Jethro has to be comfortable. And most HC like Payton don’t won’t the meddling owner Jethro presents.

I’d love to have Sean but can’t see him lowering his standards for the Cowboys and Jone$.

Could depend on how humbled (and desperate) Jerry may be. He may give in and let Sean have more control.

We shall see. My hunch tells me Payton would be more interested in other venues.

I just can’t see him choosing our dysfunctional situation over one where he has full control.
I agree, we shall see.

It’s hard enough trying to find a proven HC to come into this dysfunctional organization. You basically are left with those whose phone isn’t ringing elsewhere.

But if Jethro starts firing back to back 12 game winning playoff coaches then the list will become even smaller.

His biggest regret in coaching moves this era already is firing Gailey after back to back playoff appearances cause he finished 8-8. He’s not going to do it again. I guarantee it.

Especially not after 12 win playoff seasons. One in which you lost your starting QB and most thought the season was over. I’d argue this has been MM best coaching season here.

I understand fans frustration if we are one and done again but there’s too much to build on here. We just need to try to win division again so we get a home field playoff game .

And making it to 3 playoff seasons could be the first time since 90’s . The more often you get in the more likely to finally break thru. But ultimately our talent has to be enough.
Play bad and lose to Tampa and he is out and Payton is in. You can book that.

Payton will wait to see what happens before committing anywhere.

I think most coaches would seriously consider a chance to lead the most famous franchise in sports. Besides, Jerry has said he's not firing McCarthy so I wouldn't worry about what fans say.

MM will be back. Hard to fire a coach with his record. You could say he overachieved this year. After the first game we all thought the season was over. The Cowboys have a habit of sliding after Thanksgiving and it's happened for 27 years. to be continued.....

- Doug Pederson was eventually fired despite winning the SB with a backup QB .(and won over the Brady/Belichek at that) .
- Ron Rivera was eventually fired from Carolina despite making a Super Bowl appearance (vs Denver)
- We know well what happened with our Jimmie Johnson issue.
- George Seifert was forced to ‘” resign” despite winning SB two years before.
- John Fox won a SB with Peyton Manning onboard, but he was eventually fired from the Broncos
- Ken Whisenhunt brought Cardinals to their only SB appearance ever in their history, but was eventually fired.
- Gruden won a SB, but was eventually forced out in Tampa land.
- Our own Dan Quinn made his SB appearance vs Pats, but declined and fired soon afterwards.

- Been several cases with NFL head coaches that have had successful regular season records and even SB appearances and wins, but eventually canned.
McCarthy has did what Garrett could not do,.. have winning seasons and playoff appearances in back to back years.

- But listening to Stephen Jones, ..the impression i got is they want more than winning seasons and a quick playoff exit.
They want that coach that can get us over the big obstacle bump in the road.

- Could this be similar to that Jon Gruden over Tony Dungy HC move in Tampa many years back ?

First MM should have been canned after the embarrassment of last years playoff debacle, another loss to TB which I'm anticipating and he should be fired, will he, unfortunately no, because Jerry doesn't want a coach, he wants a friend that he can easily control. Which of course hasn't worked since the last two coaches that weren't yes men was Jimmy of course and Parcells.

if we lose this game in a fashion that sits badly with Jerry his gig is over in Dallas.
Yeah I agree with this. If they look like what they did against Washington this weekend against an 8 win Tampa team I think he at least considers firing him

He's too loyal to Kellen Moore to throw him under the bus. By that I mean there's rumors of if they lay an egg Kellen gets demoted and McCarthy comes back next year but calls the plays (basically saying McCarthy wasn't the issue he can fix it next year by calling his own plays)

Thank goodness that he wasn't fired after the 6 point loss and came back and put up an impressive season that is still in progress.

The Cowboys are no longer a franchise most HC’s would aspire to.

Coaches jobs should be on the line. Every off-season they should evaluate everyone and make changes where they see fit.

If there is yet another quick playoff exit and we keep the same status quo at coaching, then that's not the effort and mentality of a championship organization.
That's a team that was so stubbornly confident Jason Garrett was the sure fire answer as long term HC that let us become complacent
.And still hasn't/won't learn by their mistakes.

- If McCarthy manages to stay as HC, ..then the other element has to be addressed. Upgrading and replacing the coordinators.
There has to be a change on both sides of the ball.

- I've heard Jerry say " you don't wait until the offseason, to finally make the neccessary adjustments "
When i heard that statement, that tend to spell Kellen Moore.

- McCarthy stays - team promotes Schottheimer to OC to replace Kellen Moore.
Quinn departs to be HC elsewhere - team promotes from within: ala Joe Witt Jr or George Edwards Jr.
By McCarthy staying that also keeps much of his coaching staff intact- including his buddy OL coach Joe Philbin.

- if Witt or Edwards are named new DC, i can only assume much of the D" position assistants will be retained
(ala Leon Lett, Al Harris, Alure, etc) .

If we lose Monday night in a close game there is a 20% chagne MM will be fired. If we lose poorly it's probably 80-90% chance MM is gone.

Ah, another nobody wants to coach here thread. Not a single shred of evidence to it but woe is us.

In reality Jerry gets any coach he wants.

We have little knowledge of McC’s relationship behind the scenes with Booger, which is a critical part of the job.

Booger needs space to move among his team and 0 competition for the camera, mic or attention and McC could not have played this any better. He does the bare minimum and league required interviews.

Payton never even considered coaching for Dallas because he wants at least the same control Parcells had and that is never happening again with this team as long as Booger walks among us.

Rule #1 applies with working for Booger, keep the boss happy and McC knew how to do that coming in because Garrett told him how to do that beginning with the interview.

Imagine a head coach that has back to back playoff entries and 12 wins each, plus and more importantly coach a back up QB for essentially an entire season.
He deserves at least another season and this is taking into account the changes we may see at both coordinators.
