I’m thinking they could use Coyle in place of Bernard. I think Coyle could play some LB if in a pinch and needed.
On special teams it shouldn’t be an issue. problem is if anybody goes down Coyle could struggle at linebacker

I don’t think much different in weight than Neal. Kearse is actually playing the one LB position in my opinion. I think that traditional one LB position is now a LB/Safety tweener.

I think the Cowboys are running a lot of 5-2-4 and 4-2-5 looks.

I don’t disagree. But I was just thinking why it’s more complicated for the D. I’m a big fan of Coyle

Because he was here, but we decided we didn't need the depth?

More we decided we didn't need to pay his contract in full if he decided to have ANY offseason surgery, his injury clause got him cut...he would not wave it so they cut him. Jaylon would have decided to have finger nail surgery then his 2022 Salary was fully gaurunteed.

4-2-5 (Nickel) is their base defense.
They also use a significant amount of Big Nickel (3 Safeties, 2 CBs).

They've played a handful of snaps in 5-1-5 Big Nickel.

Me too, big fan. Might need to promote him to the roster to keep him. He could play LB in a pinch.

Coyle has only been active for 1 game.
- He played 53% of the Special Teams snaps in that game.

It is unlikely that he would get any meaningful snaps this season.

At 6'-1/2", 209 pounds (pre-draft, 215 Cowboys listing) he is unlikely to play LB.

He did have excellent measurables for a Safety:
6'1/2"
209
4.41 forty (Just 2 ticks from breaking into 4.3 range)
39" vert

That prospect probably being Devante Bond.

They’ve sat on their hands for months at this position. Francis Bernard gets hurt and NOW it’s suddenly a priority?

In a season otherwise filled with great successes, the inactivity with the linebacker position is open to criticism.

That's the reason they gave to the media, but I think they just didn't want a popular, highly paid player sitting on the bench.
- It prevents the coaches from being the 'bad guys' for benching him.
- He probably wasn't an option for Special Teams either.

I don't think that prototypical LB size of 6-2, 240-250 pound LB is what the team is looking for at that one LB position. Speed and quickness are more desirable and that only comes with 210-220 pound players.

You can add Kearse to that list.

Between Parsons, LVE, Kearse, Neal and only needing 2 on the field most of the time we will be fine. Would like a thumper for short yardage but we don't have one of those when healthy.

If LVE moves on, we definitely need to draft/sign more LB in the offseason.

Our corners and S are healthy and playing well. Gallimore, Watkins, and Osa are healthy and playing well. DE is par de excellence.

I'm not scared. This defense kicks ***.

Cutting Jaylon was for morale as well. He wasn’t good, was arrogant, and was from the previous regime where accountability for bad play didn’t exist.
That was sure a part of it
But mostly I think it was about his injury guarantee

No, they were afraid of the injury clause where next years contract would be guaranteed I think - not depth.

Yeah, they decided that was more important than whatever depth Jaylon provided this year. A street FA was considered the better option, or as McCarthy called him "a prospect."
