They are the same. Each have about the same regular season records, one playoff win and not a single NFC Conference game visits.
Not to mention, Jerry was / is comfortable with both.

12 and 5 although disappointing in the end beats 8 and 8 and disappointing in the end every time.
Nobody overcomes Jerry so it's only common sense to take the lesser of two evils.
Not to mention McCarthy actually won a Super bowl at one point in his life when he didn't have to overcome Jerry so at least he's capable with The perfect Storm.
