CFZ McCarthy or Quinn in 2024? Is a NFCCG appearance enough to stay the course?

Under this scenario who is your head coach for 2024?

This isn't a prediction thread. Just a what if scenario.

What if the 2023 Cowboys were basically the same team of the last couple of years offensively and defensively but finally make it back to the NFC Championship Game before looking exactly like they've looked the last two playoff defeats. So a 12 wins or so season, two good playoff games and then getting shut down in the NFCCG.

That's the season you just experienced. Its not a prediction. It's a please play along that that's what just happened.

So here's the question. You make the call. Do you want McCarthy back and maybe with a contract extension? (2024 is the last year on his deal) Or would you want to hand the team to Dan Quinn instead in the offseason? An offseason where he might end up on another team if you don't.

You've made the next step. You finally got over the hump and got back to the NFCCG. But you looked a little overmatched when you got there.

Are you on Team Fat or Team Skinny?

What do you do?

Cowboys! either way.

I would never make Dan Quinn the HC. Assuming an early playoff exit or missing entirely, it'll be an entire regime change.

And, you should only hire an offensive-minded HC anyway.

Getting to the CG would probably be reason enough to bring him back for a lame duck season.

A better question is if they lose in the divisional round in the same manner yet again. At that point, typically the FO is to blame, but…umm…yep.

I would think it would all depend on how things went…..is the defense great and the offense sputtering? Are we finally losing Quinn if we don’t promote him, or does Jerry tell him we either win in 24 or you’ll take over in 25.

Personally, like MM/Quinn or not, this is probably as good as we can do as far as coaching talent until a certain guys ego leaves this life, so NOW is the time to win.

If the Cowboys make the playoffs and there are no extenuating off-the-field issues, McCarthy is 100% back for 2024 regardless of how far Dallas makes it. What team fires a coach for making the playoffs 3 straight years, winning 34+ games in that timeframe?

An NFCCG appearance may guarantee his stay for 2024 and 2025 as well.

It seems as though when the Cowboys have a terrible season, Jerry keeps part of the staff responsible.

He fired Wade, then kept Jason.

He fired Jason, then kept Kellen.

If Jerry fired McCarthy, they are going to keep Quinn?

If the Cowboys have a bad season then opponent offenses scored more than the Cowboys offenses. And we keep the defensive coordinator?

Why keep part of the problem? Just because the Cowboys had a couple of great defensive drafts doesn't mean that Quinn is untouchable. I like him too but if things don't work out, once again, let's do something different. Let's just start from scratch as far as coaching goes.

I just wish we could do that with the GM position.

The only time a HC was replaced when having double digit wins three seasons in a row was Dungy in TB.

If Booger were to fire McC, he would also be firing his OC.

If he made it to the NFCCG, how can any owner fire him?

If an owner fires him, the obvious choice to replace him is the HC that beat him in the NFCCG because if this is all about the HC, there is only one better than him in the conference.

This team hasn't done enough to move past the 49-ers. Not unless the 49-ers have a major injury bug decimate their team. Same with the Eagles.
