Correct, it was more bad luck. Anyone saying he's injury prone or brittle is an idiot
Labrum, back, 2 major knee injuries, and 1 other. So, I am an idiot? He plays hard and is susceptible to these types of injuries, and his first 2 years in the NFL are proof positive no matter how hard it is to swallow for fans

He bulked up to 240 for this season. He's big enough. Plenty of LBs across the league that weigh less than that. Maybe he's not a Mike but can play on the second level, especially with how fast and instinctive he is.

He apparently got hurt this time with guys rolling on his leg. Anyone can injure their knee in that situation.
He's got pencil legs which is not a good trait for a LB. He missed last year with an ACL and now this.......maybe he needs to lose weight and move to SS so there are fewer 300 lb bodies flying at his knees.

Do I think you're an idiot? No. You seem like a very intelligent guy, although you're a reds fan.

Maybe it's his style of play i can buy some of that and maybe it's bad luck like last night when a 300lb guy fell on his knee

Its obvious to any fan that the linebackers will have to be re-worked with this devastating injury.
The injury is just one part of the problem, which is now an established pattern.

Several fans here pointed out that this corp was an area of strength before the season started....it was wishful thinking with no evidence to support it.

Merely cashing in my receipts

LOL I would accept idiot for being a fan of both these dumpster fires. Seems more than bad luck, and his style of play certainly is part of the issue with the guy. Shameful and feel bad for the kid

This is terrible news for Overshown. He came back from 1 surgery and seemed to be okay, maybe he cane come back from this one too. What happened to him has happened to lots of players and with the same result. I do not think this means he is injury prone. He runs to the action which is why he might wind up in collisions and stuff. Let's hope he returns to form quickly. He is still young so he has youth going for him.

I know Zimmer loves Liufau But he doesn't have the speed or instinct Overshown has. He will get a chance to prove me wrong the next 4 games. The injury jinx has really clobbered the Cowboys this season.

Liufau is just a guy. He doesn't look fast nor strong. There is no sizzle to his game. He's like a Russet Potato.

I'm betting it's at least 2 torn knee ligaments. Possibly 3 out of 4.

It looked bad.

Career might be over with the same knee seriously torn up. Those knee ligaments might not hold up anymore.
If his own ligaments are too torn up to last they can replace them with the teflon ones which will last forever and are stronger than natural ligaments. I'm not sure why they don't just do that in the first place for athletes. Rejection maybe?

I feel terrible for the player. It must be endlessly frustrating to want to be on the field making plays, only to be sidelined by injuries repeatedly.

And why are we so snake-bitten at linebacker? Did someone cast a voodoo hex on the position? It's absolutely maddening.

I haven't heard about teflon tendons, only teflon to coat the ends of bones to make the joints function more smoothly. I have read that there are artificial tendon materials that are used to reinforce natural tendons when necessary.

Some players have brutal luck & some seem to skate thru their career with hardly any injuries. No way to know. You just have to draft good players & hope for the best.

P.S. - All the more reason he should have gotten the Thanksgiving Day Player of the game. Would have lived on in archival footage.

Different position, but both Fred Taylor and Frank Gore spent a ton of time on IR the first few seasons of their careers.

Then they both became suddenly durable for a long time.

You just never know.

They need to red shirt him for a full year. Hate to say it but he needs time to get his body right before he gets in a live game.

One night when I was unable to sleep I watched a documentary about this new surgical technique for repairing knees. This was back in the 90's. I watched the doctor install an artificial tendon on a patient's knee. Basically it was an artificial tendon that they screwed into the bone. I will never forget the doctor pulling on that thing with all his might demonstrating how strong it was. I was amazed. It may not have been teflon.. Could have been some other material (it was like 3 am and I was half asleep) but as I watched it I thought to myself that career ending knee injuries would become a thing of the past. And they pretty much have.

i think he's done, it sucks because he was a huge bright spot and hadn't reached his potential...now with this I don't think he makes it to a 2nd contract

probably something the cowboys love b/c they can keep him around for cheap and justify not drafting another LBer f*** this team

100%, you cant make up what a cluster it's been
The writing was on the wall the minute Jerry signed Dak to that ridiculous contract. This cluster is just in its beginning stages, this team won't be competitive for another 3 years minimum and has the potential to go much longer than that given Jerry's reluctance to draft a pedigreed QB.

We threw tons of money at a mediocre declining QB and now can't even field a competent team around him. Oh and it only gets worse when we mak Micha the highest paid defensive player in the league. All these holes will be filled by cast offs and UDFAs.

I'm far from a doctor so don't take my knowledge on the subject too serious, but my wife works as a nurse at a surgery center that does a lot of sports related procedures so these are they types of conversations I hear about from time to time. From my understanding (and its a very limited understanding) you're absolutely right in how strong these things are at least for the average human. The issue seems to be that they arent the most flexible and struggle with a lot of high impact twisting motions which is why they aren't more common for athletes. Couldn't tell you if thats a specific type of material that has those issues, all of them, or how many different artificial ligaments are on the market right now.
