McCarthy Walking Away Should Tell Us Something

You legit typed this up and thought you were on to something when in reality you couldn’t have been further from the truth.
Time will tell. Just feel free and rub it in my face in the next few years when we make a deep a playoff run to show me I’m wrong…I’ll happily and patiently wait for that moment

As reported through others on the forum and as evident from this coach carousel, they expected Mike to come back, and he walked away anyway.

We can all make guesses why that happened. People will say Jerry is cheap, or Mike didn’t like being a puppet, or whatever you want, and there might be some truth to that.

But mostly, the NFL is a business where a coach’s value is in wins and losses, so Id guess 80% of Mike walking away is that he doesn’t see this team doing well the next few years, which would hurt his career and legacy.

The real question is why does he think that? That’s the real discussion topic, and some fans aren’t ready for the obvious answer. The window for this team ended last year, and now we have to wait for the embers of overpayed players that used to be good filter out of the organization. Mike doesn’t want to coach this team, because he knows already overrated and undisciplined talent is dying off faster than it can be replaced, and the front office doesn’t have the guts to make it end quickly so we can just start over with a clean slate

Mike might go to a bad team with low expectations, because success would be making them mediocre. But staying on a mediocre team with unrealistic expectations and a delusional front office is far, far worse.
The power struggle is real.....The pettiness is real.....The finger pointing behind the scenes is real. No accountability is real. Coaches blame the owners....Owners blame the coaches for not having the players ready. Players blame the owner for not supplying enough help. Coaches are frustrated not being able to control the roster. It's just a finger pointing fiasco that no one has any accountability too.

I’m sure Jerry pushing Witten as the successor didn’t help matters. Mike did the right thing!

This is most likely the reason. The level of commitment dedicated to building the roster from this front office doesn't justify the expectations.

It tells us he wants more money

This is so right on!!!

He didn't earn better status and got what he actually did and not earn better in Dallas. Jerry, hell...

This is a different argument. We ain’t going on any run

We have the worst GM in sports building the roster. And then he’ll hand the job to an unqualified rube because of nepotism. Things won’t get better here until the Jones family is run out of town.

lol delusional
Reality

Big Mike didn’t stand up to Jerry….didnt turn down an extension.

there was never going to be a New Contract.

Big Mike was a disaster.

he was lucky he wasn’t fired during the bye week.

most of us thought he should have been fired after the playoff loss to GB.

You cant spend 30+ percent of your team cap on a QB and expect to spend $$$ on free agents.

there is also a ton of void/dead cap $$$ on the 2025 cap.

it won’t get better until 2026.

fans wanting Jerry to extend contracts for FA $$$ will just make things worse.

Nope.

NFL HC jobs are performance based.

He failed.

No one turns down the HC job at Dallas.

Stop it.
That’s why he walked, crazy to not base it off performance but that came from the team directly. Number of years…

"All-In Jerry" made it plain last season that he has no serious interest in roster-building. The lack of front office activity (in football matters, anyway) was astonishing. How could that not be absolutely deflating for McCarthy -- being asked to whip up soufflés with table scraps & week-old leftovers, and then being judged on the results by the Gordon Ramsays of the football world?

Jimmy Johnson knew how to build a roster. He inherited an old, slow team with poor habits. During his five years in Dallas, the Cowboys made FIFTY-ONE trades (not just the famous Herschel Walker transaction), transforming that inheritance into the youngest & most-robust team in the League, with two Lombardi Trophies to show for it.

What is the real reason the Cowboys have deviated from that proven formula and level of engagement?

Dallas has all of the cap flexibility necessary to instantly be a contender again next year. Dead money is among the lowest of any team that actually tried to win recently, with a few contact switches you can free up 80+ mil in cap space to sign free agents, don’t let Jerry make you believe this is the players fault. This is all on him. He is the worst GM in the league.

The Dallas Clownboys, it kinda has a ring to it.

Reality?

If every coach who lost a playoff game were fired, no coach would fit your criteria.

I agree with big dog.

If Mike walked away because of Jerry than I give him credit. He probably knew he couldn't get the team to where he wanted it to be because of the stupid owner meddling around and not valuing what he's done.

Frankly, if Mike had a GM that was really "all-in" than I'm sure he would have stuck around. But of course Jerry talks from both sides of his mouth and Mike has had enough of it.
