Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy: "We will spend more time on red zone this week. That's just the way I've always done it. When things aren't right, just work harder at it and spend more time on it. It's Week 3 and we know what our numbers are. We were last in the league on third down a couple weeks into it last year, and that turned out pretty good. We're not going to overreact to it. The most important thing is we're getting down there more than anybody. We lead the league in 10-plus (play) drives. We're moving the ball. That's the hard part. We have some strong feelings on things we know we can improve on."

You mean to tell me after all these years of being an OC, Mike doesn't already have some highly-effective play designs for the Red Zone? What the hec did they hire you for??? For your impeccable game management? Because you're a fantastic leader of men?

I mean we could also assume the Cardinals just had a great plan for the Cowboys and that the Cowboys just failed to execute.

Perfection in the NFL across 17 games is impossible. Dallas had a bad game. Guess what? There will be others. Just like there will be more big wins.

LOL.

Spot on.

McCarthy is neither brilliant or a great OC. He's passable as a HC.

This offense was over simplified in the Red Zone due to three new linemen starting on the offense...too much running on first down at the ten yard point.

teams are playing a bend don’t break defense and sitting back in zone coverage and letting the cowboys run and have some throws outside the numbers between the 20s. but when the field shrinks, the cowboys can’t pound it in, and can’t beat the clogged coverage.

Lack of any creativity in the RZ offense other than that crazy option play to Lamb which was dumb.

Where are quick slants, maybe some rub routes that teams love to use against us, etc........
That play to Lamb in the RZ drove me insane

The hard part is scoring…

You were like that on third down, because you had Cooper Rush running a conservative game plan and not risking it. This is your 8 year QB that you inserted in the line-up after the Philly game, which then led to 15 picks.

Some of the comments are funny. Down 3 linemen and things change. Playcalling isn't universal without taking injuries into account and what you have available on the field. Offense strangely looks very different if all 5 starters can manage to stay out there.

What if, and believe me this is hypothetical...

We actually use our FB in the red zone? Maybe line up in the Power I formation and just pile drive into the end zone? Or hit him in the soft spots that Witten used to find since he has good hands? Or hand him the ball directly since he can run with power?

Would that do anything for you?

Luepke is proving his worth and should definitely be more involved inside the RZ.
