Pathetic that this even needs to be done. Even worse, all of this will amount to nothing in the end.

Yeah, Mike and now teams are acquiring tape and tendencies on your offense.
Let the finger pointing begin this week.

Lack of any creativity in the RZ offense other than that crazy option play to Lamb which was dumb.

Where are quick slants, maybe some rub routes that teams love to use against us, etc........
Just my impression, but I feel like I've seen quite a few more quick slants this year than previously.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy: "We will spend more time on red zone this week. That's just the way I've always done it. When things aren't right, just work harder at it and spend more time on it. It's Week 3 and we know what our numbers are. We were last in the league on third down a couple weeks into it last year, and that turned out pretty good. We're not going to overreact to it. The most important thing is we're getting down there more than anybody. We lead the league in 10-plus (play) drives. We're moving the ball. That's the hard part. We have some strong feelings on things we know we can improve on."

They just need to get some 1st downs around the 5 yardline instead of around the 10.

What if, and believe me this is hypothetical...

We actually use our FB in the red zone? Maybe line up in the Power I formation and just pile drive into the end zone? Or hit him in the soft spots that Witten used to find since he has good hands? Or hand him the ball directly since he can run with power?

Would that do anything for you?
exactly. MM will be doing that I imagine.

There was a run route in RZ CeeDee ran it too deep and missed the run.

It seems incredible in a way that early in the week we were talking about having the full starting lineup together for the first time with the expected return of Tyler Smith. He did get back on the field, but he and Terence Steele were the only planned starters from the beginning of the season to play, as Tyron Smith, Tyler Biadasz, and Zack Martin all sat this one out with various problems. That’s a lot of All-Pro and Pro Bowl appearances sitting on the sidelines. Instead, Chuma Edoga, T.J. Bass, and Brock Hoffman played all of the offensive snaps.

How did that affect the offense? Well, it is hard to put a lot of blame on the backups. The Cowboys were actually able to move well between the 20s, and had 416 yards of offense. Dak Prescott was only sacked twice, and the running game was quite good, with 186 yards. Tony Pollard led the way and was, surprisingly, the leading rusher for the game with 122 yards.

Here are a couple of seemingly contradictory stats: The Cowboys converted on 56.3% of their third downs, but only managed to score touchdowns on one of their five trips into the red zone. That means that four of the seven times Dallas failed to convert a third down were inside the 20. This makes little sense. The new Texas Coast offense is designed to move the ball with runs and short, ball control passes, which worked quite well until they got too close to the end zone. It is noteworthy that Prescott only averaged 5.5 yards per attempt, but couldn’t manage that when they had a chance to score from in close. Likewise, the team gained 5.6 yards per rush, which is also more that satisfactory - normally. But that, which should have meant they could just hand the ball off until someone crossed the goal line, also failed repeatedly in the red zone. Had they scored touchdowns on the two short field goals Brandon Aubrey kicked, not been stopped on a fourth down attempt inside the five, and if Prescott had not thrown the interception in the end zone - well, that’s a lot of ifs, but the point is that the team was in position to score enough points to win this game. They just failed.

That's like Mike saying, I saw the buffet and I spent more time in the line than anyone, and I didn't get filled up. shrugs

You mean to tell me after all these years of being an OC, Mike doesn't already have some highly-effective play designs for the Red Zone? What the hec did they hire you for??? For your impeccable game management? Because you're a fantastic leader of men?

They hired him because:

A. He tricked the Jones boys into thinking they hired an analytics genius
B. He is a pushover and was willing to accept Boy Wonder as his OC

He's just another Jerry puppet who was looking for a final pay day.

Yes, that he already doesn't have a list of effective RZ plays that they practice regularly.
Hmmm. Well he never said that.

Shottenhiemer has already stayed for the Cardinals game they had to remove plays due having 3 new OL playing on such short notice.

In Giants game there were 2 dropped TDs in the red zone. Do you think had those been caught they would have been effective RedZone play calls?

Did you know practice each week is structured so they have an slotted time for various scenarios like I think it's Thursdays maybe Fridays is dedicated to RedZone practice?

What he DID say is they would spend MORE time practicing in RedZone situations. And for the life of me, I can't figure out why that's such a negative thing.

Aaron Rodgers threw the back shoulder fade in jus prime better than anybody. Now MM has Dak Prescott.

To give you the numbers when they won the SB, Rodgers threw 29 TDs and had only 1 INT in the red-zone. His completion rate was 53/84. 23 of the TDs were within 10 yards out, meaning he threw 6 of them from 10-20 yards out. They were AWFUL running from the red zone. They scored like 2 TDs off their RBs and Rodgers had 4 rushing.

Is MM going to inject Dak with Rodger’s DNA?

Nope, that's not the hard part MM, the hard part is turning them into TDs... and you need to work smarter, how harder can you go? Or are you saying you aren't working hard at all? You lead the league in 10+ play drives...well give yourself a bone. Your playcalling in the red zone is playing for FGs....many here celebrated him playing for FGs against the Jets....well, not anymore I see.
