McClay specifically argued for Mazi when Jerry asked him.

Why are they arguing? Spent months preparing a board.

First, your board was wrong to have him rated that highly to begin with.

Second, even assuming you have him ranked in that area, I find it difficult to believe you didn't have other players with a better grade available.

As JJ always says— the buck ultimately stops with him. McClay needs to protect them from themselves I guess lol
