Are we really sweating these losses? Thornton is a very similar player to McClaim, hopefully he stays healthy next year. Most believe Irving will play inside more often plus Crawford can help. Dallas is going to draft DL help and we need a couple spots for rookies and Tapper.

Church is a nice player but the Jags overpaid. He's very replaceable and Dallas can't afford to pay that much for Church and keep its best players down the road.

Crawford is a JAG who will be replaced in the draft.

I don't get the panic

They don't worry me.

McClain - Sure, he might've been our best DLman in the first half of the season, but that's not saying much. He tapered off in the second half of the season when young guys (Irving, Collins) began to step up. Losing McClain could hurt us if we fail to properly address the D-line, but that would be a problem in itself.

Crawford - He was a fringe player anyway and probably wouldn't have made the finally roster if we drafted and added a few quality DLmen. When Jack Crawford continues to make your final roster year after year, you have a problem.

Church - A veteran and a team leader but not much more. We needed a surge at the safety position anyway. Hopefully Jeff Heath can take the next step and form a young, athletic duo with Byron Jones. Or maybe someone like Peppers will be the BPA when we draft at 28. We could even lose Wilcox and it wouldn't be hard to replace them.

I see us losing other free agents too. We already have a lot of DLmen signed to the roster (and will likely draft some more) so losing McClain and Crawford isn't a big deal. The issue with the D-line is and always has been top-end talent. We should be focused on adding some. The secondary, on the other hand, will be very short if we lose everyone. But they shouldn't be too hard to replace. The only player I think would be a hard talent to replace talent-wise would be Claiborne, but he's so unreliable that he isn't worth bringing back unless he takes another cheap 1-year deal. I'm hoping we can bring him back on one. What I don't want to see us do is waste more early draft picks on CB when guys with extraordinary talent could fall to us.

Crawford was already upgraded off the UDFA scrapheap with Irving. Crawford and Irving make the other Crawford expendable.

McClain was our best DL for the first half of the season and dominated a couple games like the Bengals. Thornton improved and could replace that value particularly considering the second half fade but it's not certain.

There has been a contingent that correctly points out that Collins is our heaviest DL and should be able to play the 1. A few thousand power cleans and he might get there.

Church missed time and we didn't miss a beat for a reason. He lacks range and doesn't turn the ball over. The press will miss him more than the defense.

Yep. I wouldn't mind seeing Tyrone at the 3 and Maliek at the 1. I still think Tyrone is a good player even if he isn't worth his contract. Together they could help each other. That's a lot of pressure coming from the inside.

Collins is a pure 3 Tech. You may be able to line him up at 1 some games to exploit a matchup. But other then that he is a pure 3 Tech

Don't forget that we have Collins who looked like a stud last year and Tapper who will be playing next year. Oh, I almost forgot, Jaylon Smith will be back. I think our defense is going to be better next year

If their replacements are all coming in on significantly cheaper contracts then it's worth it. they weren't really doing anything for this defense to begin with.
