The fast food places kinda screwed themselves, they couldn't match the quality of local places, so they made up for it with convenience and price. It has gotten to the point that local places are better quality, better priced and have caught up in convenience with on-line ordering and delivery services.
The fast food places didn’t screw themselves.

Inflation as well as having to pay $20 minimum wage for employees who have minimal to no skills is the problem.

They didn’t have a choice but to raise their prices.

The only thing I like about McDonald’s is their fries. An In-N-Out Double-Double with fries and a drink now will cost you more than $10 in California. I just went to Subway and had a foot-long turkey for $12.50 and that didn’t include the drink.

I'll roll through a McD's here and there. I don't hate them, they are what they are. I still think (when you can get a correct batch) that they have the best fries. Their breakfasts are good too. In fact, I just snagged myself an Egg McMuffin last week for the first time in ages. It was solid.

The breakfast is the best items at McDs and I am not a big breakfast guy.

To this day the best thing is two Cheeseburgers with extra pickles. It is cheap and too hard to screw up.
However they are just for a midday snack until you get a better meal later in the day.

McDonalds is McDonalds and everybody bashes them but they still sell a crap ton of food everyday...good or bad, more people buy it even if they complain about it.

I remember you could buy a Big Mac, when they first came out, for $.59, fries were $.19 and the drink was cheap. The meal was less than $1.50.

Carroll's, which was owned by Burger King, my father would feed a total of 8 of us for around $7. And we're talking no less than double helpings for each of us.

Oh how times have changed.

What's funny is that it isn't even 5 bucks at many places. They are actually charging more for the 5 dollar meal.

I stopped going to fast food places. At this point franchise restaurants aren't much more expensive. Or I make what I buy at the grocery store. They are simply not a good monetary choice anymore. You wouldn't pay 5 bucks for a small bottle of water, right?

BTW, those chicken nuggets, you have to know they're not chicken nuggets, right? It's a 4 meat slurry concoction. It's absolute garbage. Back around 2016 I drove past a Burger King that advertised a bucket of 50 nuggets for 9.99. You have to know that isn't chicken. McDonald's is no different.

In high school (late 90s), I remember us sometimes leaving campus and heading to the nearest Burger King for lunch. Back then, you could indulge in a large Double Whopper meal for just $5.

Ugh, I'm officially getting old. "Well, back when I was a kid..............."

We had 9-12 in our high schools. 9th graders were not allowed to leave campus, but 10-12 could. Of course, as a freshman, we always snuck off campus, but there were consequences if we got caught. I never did get caught though.

Well he earned 250 a month back then too, right? Just kidding but even though the last 4 years have been really bad as far as inflation goes, my salary increase was still higher. Of course inflation ate up a lot of the extra money but it's not like people are drowning. They have to stop buying unnecessary crap though. Lots of the lower income people in my vicinity still have that 65" OLED TV and other stuff. When I was just getting by during my uni years I just had some crappy CRT, no car and stayed away from any fancy stuff like eating out and so on.

Fast Food has become ridiculously expensive, so why even bother? That's the easiest thing to stay away from, right? Yet the lines at the local McDonald's are long and people complain about prices at the same time. I don't get it. Sorry for the mini rant. No offense intended.
