At the same time, Darren McFadden has said he will be going pro after this coming season, and that the starting QB for the browns will be decided...by a coin flip

Albeit preseason, it still says the Browns are completely clueless as to who will be leading their team.

The stars are aligning

This potentially could be a very deep RB class.

I'm more interested in Stud DT or WR with our first #1. We can mine a RB with 2nd #1 if need be.

Our writers are reporting that his mom is backtracking. McFadden apparently called her and asked her not to talk about him going pro and said he hasn't made that decision yet ... although it appears that he has and is just trying to save face.

The 3-4 flows from the NT, and IMHO the Steelers have the best in Casey Hampton.

I shudder to think what kind of stoopid automotive fashion statement that boy might make if he had some serious money...

I think we have several needs which must be addressed in 08 and I'm talking starters. Realize it's extremely early in preseason and things could change dramatically but again our RBs failed to pick up the needed yards in the redzone. Yes, we were w/o our starting tackles but Free & McQuistan looked pretty good. Hope Adams & Colombo return can improve our OL so Romo gets better pass protection & there's better run blocking/opening holes for the running game.

Anyway, if we seriously want another SB win (and all Cowboy fans want that) we need to add a great RB, CB, WR & NT in the draft. It's just too difficult to find these players in FA w/o paying outlandish amounts of money. Of course if we really lucky maybe one player currently on the Cowboys really steps up his play to the point he shows he can be a future starter at a need position. While I'm not seeing it yet, we've got the rest of preseason & the regular season for that to happen.

Red Flags? Link

According to a police report, McFadden was involved in a disturbance at 4:20 a.m. Saturday at Palace the Club, a private club in Little Rock. When officers arrived, a fight was taking place in the parking lot while a crowd watched. McFadden told officers he didn't know the person he was fighting with, the report said.

Roy Millsap, the club's manager, wasn't there Friday night, but he talked with security guards who were. Millsap told The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that McFadden was never inside the club before the incident.

Millsap said McFadden was arguing with people outside, and security guards "tried and tried to get (McFadden) to leave and he wouldn't do it. And he ended up getting into a fight with these people."

Security guards said another man tried to steal a car belonging to either McFadden or a relative, but McFadden caught him.
"Darren was kicking and kicking at him and his shoe came off and his foot hit the pavement," Millsap said.

I like McFadden just as much as the next guy, but I think I'd rather trade down and pick up more picks w/ the Browns pick and address other positions if that's an option.

And let's not forget about Felix Jones. W/ all the hype that McFadden's going to be receiving this year, Felix can be a fantastic value later in the 1st.

Why should this year be any different?

I think we should evaluate what the two picks could bring the team.

An impact DT & WR could be a major boost to this team.

Owens/Glenn are too old not to plan on replacing through the draft.

Good posts. The Browns continue to be a train wreck. Mcginest is hurt, quinn just got into camp and GOD I hope he starts: recipe for a 3 win season and us getting the #1 pick. I'm with the majority on McFadden. Let's wait and see guys. RB's are ALWAYS easier to get than stud DT's or WR's. I lean toward not taking him right now if that's the case: especially after reading the police blotter. Sounds like a knucklehead.

he might be, but he wasnt a top-5 pick, and wouldnt have been worth if he had

no 3-4 NT is worth a top-5 pick, which is what Clevelands pick is likely to be

Parcells did a fine job of upgrading the overall quality of talent on the team. The infrastructure appears to be in pretty good shape.

IMO, the Cowboys don't need more consistently above average players as much as they need a couple of big time dominant players.

There have been years (e.g., late 1980s, late 1990s, early 2000s) when the team wasn't good enough overall that a couple of truly great players could put them over the top. The Cowboys are good enough now, though.

And if you are looking for truly dominant players - you have to be careful about earmarking a particular position or two. My personal preference would be a great RB, but if the greatest player available happens to be a left offensive tackle, I don't think you pass him up to obtain a couple of draft choices that net you an above average RB and an above average WR.

I don't know about McFadden...seems to me he is already displaying traits of thug superstar-itis. Maybe his running mate Jones with the second pick would be the better option afterall....a high first round pick is far too important, too expensive and should not be used on any player with character flaws.
Having said that, there is still seven or eight months and an entire college/NFL season to play before we know anything anyhow.

I can live without Darren McFadden. We've got two decent ones now, and you can find high-caliber players at RB in the first round EVERY year. If the Browns pick does end up being a top-3 selection, I'd rather see us grabbing a WR if there is one that warrants a high selection. Or maybe even a QB if Romo has a shaky year.

I'm actually tired of hearing this owens/glenn to old stuff..

Manning. Why aren't people mentioning his age ever?

Our WR's are fine... we will need a NT and BPA next draft. No one picks up a NT with the 1st round let alone 1st pick.. I think MB and JJ will do fine, so I doubt our pick will be RB, my prediction is that it will be DE.
