I've been reading the boards for a while, but this is my first post. I don't know much about the prospects till the draft nears, but I do follow and love the Cowboys. I think the following areas we will need to improve upon or build for the future: NT, CB, OL, WR, and maybe RB. I do not have RB as a high priority because IMO most running backs are as good as their offensive line. If the line cannot create, then the RB can't do much.

Since the Boys run a 3-4, the biggest fear I have is Ferguson getting hurt this year. We also know he is getting up there in age. I think thats a key need. If there is a top rated CB in this draft (say another Newman), you take him and possibly move Henry to FS next year. I know Long is the big OL this year, and the Boys typically don't take OL's in the 1st round. But if he is head and shoulders above everyone else and is not a Robert Gallery, then we should look at him. TO and Glenn are getting old but we are not desperate to pick up a WR. We can get value picks elsewhere with these positions. The three most critical positions to improve upon for this team are NT, CB, and OL. You can never have too good of an OL or DL. Thats where the game is won.

It'd be incredible coming out with two starters at two key positions next year. Now if there is another Calvin Johnson on board, it will be hard to pass that up.

This is the one year that I wouldn't mind taking a reciever in the first round. I would also let Jones go in the offseason and spend one of our top 3 picks on a running back. Seeing as how Jason Ferguson is still the best player on our line, I'm in no hurry to replace him. The only position that we wont be drafting high is linebacker, otherwise, you have to take the best guy. I don't see how you can pass on a player like Kenny Phillips if you get a chance at him.

I feel like we should only draft a WR if they're the obvious choice at where we pick.

If everything goes like the way I think it will:

QB- Tony Romo will prove he's the long term answer.
RB- JJ will go for 1200 yards, but will show he isn't a consistant game changing back, and MB III will show he's a good change of pace back, but nothing more. RB will probably be a high priority
WR- Owens will put up similar numbers, but hopefully less drops, I think Glenn's numbers will drop, but he'll still be close to 1000 yards. I expect a big year from Crayton, who will show he can be a solid #2. But if everyone returns, why draft a WR early, especially if Hurd, Miles and Stanback show any promise
FB/TE- No way we draft one before the 6th round, if at all
OL- LT will be tempting if Sam Baker, and Jake Long are available, but McQuistern/Free will show enough that'll we'll pass on them.
DE- Even if Spears doesn't step up, Canty, Hatcher, and Ratliff are a good enough to keep us from drafting an end
NT- Would love for us to draft one, but not with one of our first or second round picks
LB- No way we draft an ILB, and if Ellis can return to the field and play at a solid level (6-8 sacks, in a back-up/part time starter role) we shouldn't draft an OLB
CB- I like Glenn, but I can't see him playing here after this year, even though I think he'll play good. I think we'll replace him with a corner, who will hopefully bump Henry to a #3 spot by 2009.
S- I really think Hamlin will prove to be an impact player for us, so I'd pass on Kenny Phillips if available.
