That’s the uninformed answer
The real answer is that it is about expending resources wisely and understanding that great and consistent defense is about discipline and tackling and built around front 7 and safety play not by spending 22 million on a CB who won’t tackle
My proposal in the early off season was to trade Diggs for a rd 1 pick with which you take a CB like Porter or Forbes and use the 22 million saved on signing Hargrave and Wagner
You really believe that Diggs is worth more than Porter/Forbes + Hargrave + Wagner?
Maybe you do
No offense man but this doesn't make much sense.
Forbes could not consistently tackle in the SEC.
He could not consistently tackle versus Texas Tech either.
So you want to replace a 200-pound corner who makes business decisions with a 166 pound guy that can not physically tackle AND likely gets bullied at the top of routes??
Forbes is an elite CB3/slot prospect. You could spot start him outside but he likely can't make a career out there. R2 guy with some special upside in a specific use case.
There isn't a single CB in this class who is as good as Diggs day 1.
Christian Gonzales is a clone physically but with lesser ball skills and more desire to tackle.
He is a CB2 day 1 that can grow to special.
Devon might ALWAYS be a top CB2 just because of size.
Like Mo Claiborne he dominated college but he wasn't facing NFL caliber WRs weekly and certainly not NFL WR1s.
Dallas could do very well in R2 or R3 at CB with a guy that can be CB2 in 2024 or 25. (Gilmore being a FA doesn't mean his definitely gone).
This CB class lacks top end but has good depth.
