McNabb's surgery has been delayed because of swelling on his knee. It could be another two or three weeks before he has the surgery, which means his status for the start of 2007 is in jeopardy even in a best-case scenario.

Will 2-3 weeks delay make that much of a difference when talking in terms of 8-12 months of rehab anyways?

That was the sound of the last board going up on the Iggles window!!!

I wonder if Igg fans still keep that running total v the Boys since the Pickle juice game!

If they do I would like to get an update just for S&G...

Well, this will force the Eagles to buy and implement an actual running game this offseason.

It could make them a very formidable team in about 3+ years. :disseags:

Let him take as long as he wants/needs.... the current QB can perform the way he was performing(or better) anyways....

I have heard recently that some doctors believe now that delaying surgery and strengthening the muscle a couple of weeks will actually speed the recovery.

Considering that it could mean he gets no work in training camp or preseason, it could make a big difference. The end of his rehab -- best case -- would be during training camp. Anything other than that, and he's missing training camp, preseason games and/or regular-season games.

This was already cited in the column I posted:

Andy Reid called it an eight-month-to-a-year injury, which means the Eagles will be fortunate if they have McNabb back for the start of the 2007 season. And to compound matters, McNabb yesterday visited orthopedist James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., and learned that he'll have to wait at least 2-3 weeks to have surgery to allow swelling to reduce around the knee.

I think McNabb's going to rehab and come back pretty good, here's to hoping everything goes well for him, unlike some I don't like seeing good guys hurt...

I thought it was common to wait until the swelling goes down. How many players have surgery immediately following the injury?

It is common, and if the swelling is very bad it indicates more damage...not good.

I hate the Eagles ,but I hate to see anyone go thru ACL surgery and rehab.
Bad memories from my sons double dose.

it wasn't "delayed" as it's SOP to wait 2-4 weeks for swelling to subside before doing the ACL repair.

that said he's done.... won't be effective/normal for the better part of a year and the team will be in chaos without him. when he returns Reid will have him passing 63 times in the first game ROTFLMAO.

Me neither. I don't know why people are celebrating this injury so much.
Iggles weren't much of threat with a healthy Mcnabb playing and didn't look to be much of a threat for the forseeable future with or without him.
They beat Dallas, at home, playing with at least as much emotion as they played with in the superbowl a few years ago.
After that they showed the kind of team they really are and tanked it.
Teams that have some success with a particular identity, ie late '70s/early '80s Chargers, mid '80s Browns, early '90s Bills, that get close to being champions but never quite get over the top have to be completely blown up before they, if ever, have championship success again.
Iggles are no different. They started to slide last year and won't be sniff the Super Bowl again until they have a completely different team with different leaders.

According to a newspaper report in Pennsylvania --

"Eagles officials had hoped the swelling in McNabb's knee was down so Dr. James Andrews would be able to operate on it early this week in Alabama—perhaps as early as Tuesday."

Another report --

"McNabb was in Birmingham, Ala., Monday to visit with noted knee surgeon James Andrews, who would have performed surgery on McNabb's torn right anterior cruciate ligament immediately had there been minimal swelling in his right knee."

Yet another article --

"If the swelling was down in the knee, Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder said the surgery would be done within the next couple of days. If the swelling could not be contained, it may be a matter of another three or four weeks before the surgery is performed."

Waiting a few weeks might be common, but it's not necessary if the swelling is minimal. The Eagles were hoping that would be the case, but it's not. And that puts his start of the 2007 season in jeopardy, even in a best-case scenario. Had the surgery been done this week and everything went exactly right, he could have been ready at the end of July. Now it's looking like the end of August at best, and that's the END of the preseason instead of the beginning. That's why these extra three weeks or so are significant.

you can post 10 articles, all based on info the writer doesn't comprehend or know enough to quote or write about.

of course there is swelling with a TORN ACL. they were assuming/hoping it was something minor... being carted off the field tells you otherwise. the articles are best case scenario to placate fans.

in a perfect world he'd have had the surgery Sun nite but that is impossible.

Palmer had his surgery (a much worse injury based on reports) in early Jan and started week 1.

I think the Eagles opportunity has come and gone to win a Superbowl but that could change...who knows!
