McShay - 3 round Grade A mock draft

I would love that draft. The only thing I will make is trade Shepard for Karl Joseph but I highly doubt that Joseph makes it our pick in the 3rd though.

I'd replace Sheppard with a running back (Yes, I think Derrick Henry could fall to the third round). I'm just not seeing the love for receiver when they're truly a dime and dozen too. Besides, we need more healthy brutes behind the quarterback to fuel our rushing game. The passing game will take care of itself if we learn to run the football effectively.

Shepard is going to be a very good player. He can play outside and in the slot. For his size, he's a good blocker. Also, he can return punts, which is pretty valuable to have.

My thoughts (and hopes) as well.

I'd swap out Shep for a DL but still would like this over any other mock I've seen. I think people are trying to make Shep out to be like Lockett last year, but I don't see it. Still, I can't put exceeding expectations past that young man.

Karl Joseph will be gone before the first 5 picks in the 2nd Round

Dallas Cowboys

Round 1 (4): Jared Goff, QB, Cal
Round 2 (34): Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson
Round 3 (67): Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma

Analysis: And now it gets interesting.Tony Romo turns 36 on April 21 and he's coming off a season in which he played just four games after suffering two collarbone injuries. It's time for the Cowboys to start planning for their future at QB. Yes, they need a pass-rusher -- which I took care of in Round 2 with Dodd -- but you can't just ignore the game's most important position, especially a season after seeing the true value of having a competent backup in place. It'd be the perfect situation for Goff, too. He'd get time to transition to the pro game after playing in a spread system at Cal, while also getting to learn from Romo and head coach Jason Garrett.

Just to be the pessimist.

QB drafted who won't see the field for 2+ years due to Romo's contract, if no other reason. (Unless there is an injury)
DE drafted who is considered by CBS ranking the 6th best DE who is a 4.86 40, 277 lb, without cat like quickness, who probably will not see the field for 2+ years if Gregory doesn't get disqualified. No Shaq Lawson on this team to demand attention.(Unless there is an injury)
WR drafted who quite possibly will not see the field for 2+ years due to Dez and TWill.(Unless there is an injury)

And we love this draft why? Because we think there will be an injury?

Does anyone think any of these guys are starters in less than 3 years, without injury? Future good though as long as these are busts.

And he would fill a need next year when our #2 is gone

I really like Wentz, but if the draft fell that way, I would be pretty damned pleased with the result.

We'll handle these 'issues' one at a time

So our young quarterback will get two years' worth of coaching before we need him? Or be available if and when Romo is hurt? Um, yay? How is that a bad thing?

Dodd's numbers are right there with Bosa, a player many have ticketed to Dallas at pick #4. And Dodd had 12 sacks this year to Bosa's 5. So getting that talent at #34 is a bad thing?

In Rod Marinelli's platoon system? Seriously? And Gregory is missing 4 games minimum, after a season when he knew he would be repeatedly tested and screwed up anyway. Counting on a player like that would be the real crime.

WR drafted who quite possibly will not see the field for 2+ years due to Dez and TWill.(Unless there is an injury)

I guess you're unaware, but Williams is in the last year of his contract.

If you're going to try to play the contrarian, try to do a better job with your arguments.
