10. Dallas Cowboys
Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech

Big D needs help on D. Last year's second-rounder, Trevon Diggs, looks like a solid find for the Cowboys, but that secondary is still problematic -- especially now that Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis could be headed elsewhere in free agency. The Cowboys allowed 34 passing touchdowns this season, tied for the third-most in the NFL. Farley (another opt-out) is a ball hawk who could turn some of those TD passes into interceptions.

It's unrealistic to expect our defense to be totally rebuilt in just 1 off-season. Adding a player like Farley adds another ball hawk in hopes of creating more defensive turnovers. Just give our offense another series and we will win more games.

I mostly agree. But the Panthers drafted all defense and they went from terrible to middle of the pack. Middle of the pack gets us into the playoffs and a chance to make a run

our D was historically bad,to even be a 20th ranked D would be a monumental task with such a talentless roster.the Draft should be focused on the Defense but FA is the only way we can improve in 2021.another round of bottom scrapping in FA will lead to a terrible D again.

I most mocks I’ve seen a CB seems to be the most logical pick
Whether it’s Farley or surtain
They both fill a serious need and aren’t reaches at 10

Great point
Just a decent improvement on defense could be huge and is realistic
I would rather only sign one or two FA, and get good solid players and fill the rest of the holes with UDFA
The whole signing 5-6 bottom feeder, over the hill FA has proven not to work
If nothing else you stand a chance of actually developing one of those UDFA if they get on the field
I have no doubt that an UDFA could have been as good as Poe was

I think they are going to have to build through the draft, cause of some of those bad contracts handed out, along with Dak needing to be resigned. They will open some cap room, but not enough for a big signing as they have to address many areas.

I'm not saying that they won't improve, just believe their aren't going to put together a championship level defense overnight. Middle of the pack, opportunistic defense could certainly propel this team into contention, cause the defense has been just so bad.

for how many years have Cowboys fans been making this statement?

secondly, it is not unrealistic at all
We have the cap dollars and draft picks to do it in one year if we want

it’s not that we can’t, it is that we won’t

I agree.....and WHY they wouldn't try to make a run while this division is a mess is beyond me.

Secret sauce I suppose.

Any mock that starts with Farley is fine by me.

He may be the only guy that excites me at 10.

@KingintheNorth ......who is your pro comp for him? Ramsey?

For some reason he made me think of Terrell Buckley. Don't ask to explain lol.
I agree with you. He is the only guy that I would take at 10 unless by some miracle Sewell drops to us which is not going to happen. I just hope Farley gets to us. I have seen where he is mocked to the Broncos who pick in front of us on many drafts. If he is not there than a small trade down.

It's not realistic, to expect multiple rookie starters to make an immediate impact. As for free agency, they could open more funds, but could affect the long-term cap situation. They have several bad contracts on their books, they have to use the draft process to get quality, cheaper talent. There is just too many needs across the board, to expect a major fa signing or two, on top of either extending Dak or worse another tag. The cap funds we do have our ear marked for Dak's future contract. Can see the team doing a restructure with Cooper's deal, but I wouldn't touch Jaylon or Zeke's deal to give us more problems down the line if they decided to release them.

It can be done and other teams have done it. The Bucs went from 29th to 8th in points allowed in 1 years. and 15th to 6th in yards allowed.

The Cowboys went from 9th in yards allowed in 2019 to 23rd in 2020. I think if this team finds a quality DT who can push the middle and a safety to support the run and roam around the secondary making plays they improve dramatically.

They need to fill a gap or two with quality free agents and that seems to be the holdup in improving this defense. Put Tomlinson next to Gallimore and then add a rangy free safety and watch how much better the defense becomes.

this is just you rationalizing a bad situation

the reality is that if we are aggressive in FA and draft will we can build this defense in 1 year.

Where are these cap dollars?

In order to free up space to make a noticeable change on D in one offseason, you are talking about making some really questionable choices - like restructuring Elliott.

The Bucs' improvement was largely tied to a 2nd season in Bowles system. If you note, they didn't really pull in a bunch of new defenders via draft and FA. Winfield, from the draft, looks like their only notable offseason acquisition on defense.

I'm at the point to where if its not Farley, head backward and target Moehrig around 18.

Problem is the dance partner, and realistically, if Moehrig settles the safety problem here...take him at 10. No one will care about draft "value" after the fact.

Looking back on most drafts, teams ought to be happy to have someone that didn't completely bust, forget about what may be perceived as a few slots too high at the time.
