Your original point was that we have the cap room to overhaul the D using FA in one year. There is a massive caveat with that statement however that makes it pretty unlikely that the Cowboys would make a couple of big defensive FA signings this offseason.

And for the record, that's not an excuse for them, the front office has put themselves in this situation by doing dumb things like handing Elliott a massive extension, signing Smith early thinking he would only get more expensive, etc.

I think you might need to review these posts

I said that “we have the resources” which included cap AND draft picks. You yourself admitted that “tough decisions would have to be made”

so like I’ve consistently said from the beginning, we can do it but we won’t because we’re too stupid and complacent

I am OK with that but it really chaps my butt that in a year we have a Top 10 pick, it's a weak year for interior DL.
Kinda like when we took zeke
Bosa was who I wanted but he was gone
Need and availability rarely line up
In general this draft seems week at DT
Recently WR is really been strong and oline is always the safest pick
Hopefully we can get a diamond in the rough in round 2 at DT

I don't think doing dumb things like restructuring Elliott (which is likely one thing they have to do to create space) is stupid. Frankly, it's smart. Elliott already isn't the same back he was in 2016 and kicking the can further down the road with him just isn't very smart football wise. They should leave the contract untouched giving themselves a chance to get out as early as possible if he continues to show decline.

I don’t understand the excitement over Farley.
  • He’s only been playing defense, CB, for 2 years
  • He only started and had 1 year at CB
  • He played mostly man with little zone experience
  • He’s had an ACL, though not really held against him these days
  • He opted to sit out 2020, so a guy with 1 year of experience plus rust?
I think Surtain is more ready to step in and start immediately, and I like pairing the two Bama teammates together again. After testing, Farley may have more upside, but we can’t wait on his development.

I can see us trading down 1-4 spots and still finding an immediate starter in Surtain, Farley, or Horn at CB.

I mostly agree. But the Panthers drafted all defense and they went from terrible to middle of the pack. Middle of the pack gets us into the playoffs and a chance to make a run
The Panthers defense sucked.

They were 28th against the run, 30th in INTs, 27th in scoring %, 24th in sacks...and that's with an easy schedule. They were basically a worse version of Marinell's defense.
