McShay's ESPN Tiered Draft Prospects

Not surprising. There is a thin top layer of perhaps five, I think McShay's three is discounting a few. But once the top ten is done, all bets are off.

That is why trading down is not exactly advisable.

Trading down, historically, is the best move. This draft included.

NFL GMs, scouts, coaches and fans place too much specificity in their player projections.

The best way to hit a far off moving target is to take a bunch of shots. Not one really hopeful one.

To be clear, my comments in this thread are about how McShay is slotting players. It's not about if they will be good players in the NFL or if they should be our picks.

Everybody is comparing Bosa to JJ Watt today. But you need to go back to the 2011 draft and look at comments and mocks for JJ. He was not predicted to be selected till 15 to 20. What you have to look at is JJ's work out regiment to become so dominate. I dare say anybody saw Watt as DPOY prior to the 2011 draft. I am not a big Bosa fan but why is he being propped up more than JJ at this point of his career.

McShay does these tiers ever year. I think it's a good way to break up the class. Of course no two people will agree on it but it's still interesting to do.

I don't like the comparison because Watt was 2 years older and 20 lbs heavier. Their other dimensions and measurables are similar though.

I think of really young guys like Tyron Smith who came into the league and was barely 300. He looked like Hercules already at age 20 when he got here yet he put on 20+ lbs and still looks like Hercules.

One look at Bosa and it's pretty obvious that he knows how to train and puts in the work. He's been training like this since high school because his father taught it to him and he had brothers to train with. It's a way of life for him and a huge plus.

I think that this groupthink that a 20 year old is somehow maxed out physically to only 'good' as opposed to 'great' sounds more like an advertising campaign than real sense. Need Tony the Tiger in here to sell us some sugar flakes.

I never thought Zeke was an option at 4, and have been doubtful we"d pull the trigger on a QB there.

Looks like Bosa, Buckner or Ramsey.

I've seen several mocks with Buckner going to SD or Dallas. Not a huge stretch to have him in the top 3-5 range.

Calling Buckner the third best talent in the draft is egregious. He's not even the third best defensive line talent.

*Blah blah blah this is just my opinion and/or mocks in March are wrong consistently also/and scouts are wrong all the time disclaimer*

He's between 3-5 on many rankings. A case can be made for a couple of others ahead of him but it's not too far off.

This isn't a mock draft, it's a ranking of players in tiers.

I know. I posted from my phone and somehow replied to this thread inadvertently.

This draft is just a weak class with even the best players have a chance of just being solid instead of an impact player that you would expect with the 4th pick in the draft.
