It doesn't matter who you talk to. It's not about being accomodating. It's about how the NFL teams issue passes. Your only chance is to call Jerry Jones to be perfectly honest. He's the only one who has the power to do anything for you.

Well, that wasn't the case for me. I'm just speaking from my experience.

Are you telling me you got a media pass to an NFL game and you aren't part of the media? Or someone replied nicely to you? Those are two totally different things. If you were in the press box on gameday, then the Cowboys are in violation of NFL rules and the sports writers union can file a grievence against them because there are writers who work for actual papers who are being left out due to lack of space.

i've gotten field passes that say media on them but i had to leave the field before the game. i did get to go down for the warmups and stuff. it's pretty cool, makes you feel like a midget though. those are some big guys. i don't know if i could get one to stay on the field for the game. thats a tough thing to get and may be tougher this year. seems like the nfl think there are too many people on the sideline

Chief, have you requested passes before?

Yes.

I've done games at Texas Stadium and at Sun Devil Stadium ... but I requested sideline passes.

It's been a few years since I've requested a pass to a game, so it may be tougher now. The last pass I requested was the 2002 training camp, which is easier and more fun anyway.

Sideline passes are probably a little easier to get.

If you work at a small paper, try to make the case that you're representing an area. And if you can find a local angle, that helps.

Unfortunately, the Dallas Cowboys seem to have little interest in fan sites.

That being said, we have contacts within the Dallas Cowboys organization, but no one should be "claiming" to represent CowboysZone.com without our permission beforehand.

Opps, so does that mean I have to give back my seats in Jerry private box on Thanksgiving...? Man Reality, I thought you would be totally cool about this.

And JJ really liked the line about me and you staying in a Holiday Express too.

Yeah, I told Mr.Dalrymple in my email that being from a small west texas town with lots of Dallas Cowboy fans, that a story of this magnitude would gain much interest. There are alot of Cowboy fans here and I know they would enjoy a story like this in their paper.

I'm not trying to be the bearer of bad news but I just want to clarify so people don't get their hopes up. First off, field passes and media passes are different. Some people are allowed on the field during warm ups for various reasons (contests, promotions, etc) As far as media passes go, I just asked our Director of PR - the guy who has been giving out our media credentials for the past decade - if a fan could ever get one and this is what he told me.

Him: No, never.

Me: It's impossible for a fan to ever get a media pass?

Him: Impossible. The NFL considers that a working envirnment and passes are only allowed to be given out to accredited media members. If I gave a press pass to a fan, I would lose my job.

Me: Do all the other teams follow the same rules?

Him: Yes, every team. No fan or person working for something like a fan site can sit in a press box during an NFL game. It's not allowed.

Just giving you the rules so you know how to go about your business. Good luck though.

By the way, media is not allowed on the field of an NFL game until the final 5:00 in the fourth quarter. Their pass is good for the press box only. They need a special pass to gain field access. TV is different, that goes for print media obviously.

I think the Cowboys could give a media pass to anyone they wished to. For example. The ES.com site gets media passes for its representatives. The Commanders allow them this access for the reporting they do back to the Es.com fan base.

I dont think the actual rule applies to the club giving out whatever pass it wants. Now if your boss had a few and gave one to a fan. I could see an issue. This is the actual CLUB allowing the access. If the Cowboys feel its a legit media person and is reporting the event. I dont see where they would be bound by some NFL rule to not allow them.

So Im not buying some NFL media rule. Im sure there is only a said number allowed. So the club gives out one less media pass and gives it to a fansite. Nothing wrong w/ that. Just like there is nothing wrong w/ the gobs of reporters coming here to get the breaking news.

This is the PLACE for all Cowboys News. You know it....and they know it. :D

I don't think this question is stupid at all. I would think the young man would want to know how the process works however so he has a better chance of getting something done in the future. If he works for a paper, then he may have a chance but I was under the assumption he was just a fan trying to get a media pass. In that case, it's impossible and against NFL rules.

Aw don't be like that. It was a legit question. And I'm sure there are many reading it who were interested in the responses.

Exactly - I thought it was a great question. Its interesting to me because of the access Es.Com has to the team on game day.

I wish we had something like that here. Course, we probably would have to be some sell out's like ES.com. I dont think we want to do that. Well - not yet anyways? :D
