As always, it depends who else is on the board. But I think LaPorta's the real deal, and he fits this offense perfectly.

#26 seems rich for him, but I actually kind of like that pick.

I keep seeing the drastic need of a TE with Schultz gone. Am I the only one really questioning if there is ANY need? I wasn't convinced Schultz was any better than his backups. I would take just about ANY position in the first other than a TE.

Same here. I was expecting something bad when these player rumors start day of the draft, but I actually dig this one. I don't love going TE, but at least I do love the player

Taco, LVE, Trysten Hill, Kelvin Joseph, Tyler Smith

To name a few recent who were not BPA. They stick to what they want and get who they prefer.

Outside of Lamb falling to them and trading for Claiborne they’ve been pretty straight forward where they are going
They like to focus on who will definitely be there with each pick. Hasn’t quite burned them yet, but probably will.

Wait until this ‘draft only’ team has a bad one.

And don’t forget that Dak lost his woobie….so this must be his choice.

I like the player a lot… I just would rather use a 2nd for him.
If they take him in the first, it's most likely that it's because others also were considering him higher than than draft gurus were. Maybe the actual scouts have him third behind Mayer and Kincaid.

With the 26th Pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the DALLAS COWBOYS select DALTON KIN.....ah sorry SAM LA PORTA , Iowa University

I was opening this up to thinking I was going to see Waashington.

Ok I’ve calmed down from the idea that the team has already figured out who they will take with pick twenty SIX. They could do worse than LaPorta, but better be damned ready if one of the tackles falls.

I do like him, just saw him as a later round guy. If he becomes a player, none of that matters.

Broaddus and Eatman are usually pretty spot on day of. If they are leaning that way there is a reason.
I think the deal is they gave away too many signals with Jerry and MM bumbling about in the press conference. Now, in-house media is trying to cover for their blunder.

If you watch the press conference, it's Darnell Washington, I think, based on what I gather from that.

If LaPorta is the player we want, then I hope we can trade down with someone like KC and take him there then maybe use the extra pick to trade up paired with our second-round pick and take a player like Avila or Torrence. That would be two players expected to go somewhere from the 30s-50s, depending on who you ask.

Yeah, I get it. Teams often value players a lot different than the media.

Had Kiper and Brugler have him rated as a first round pick… most would be fine with it.

However, when people have been getting LaPorta in the third round of their mocks… they just assume that Dallas is stupid and couldn’t wait and are livid.

I got 3rd round yesterday, but he's a top 50 player in my book. I know he'll have a nice career. Then again, so will Mayer. Mayer is a tad bit better right now, I think. I'd be happy with Mayer, but he'll go top 20, so it very well could be LaPorta if they think they can't get him in the 2nd, and they very well might not.
I could see their board being.

Mayer
LaPorta
Washington

Or flip Washington and LaPorta. But either way, it'll be between Washington and LaPorta because Mayer won't fall to us. If he does, they should definitely take him.

Or maybe they want LaPorta round 1, Campbell round 2.. that would make sesnse.

The pre-draft press conference?

Did they mention Washington?

Jane Slater kept asking questions about TE but I don't remember them mentioning names.

Travis Frederick...

Many people on CZ hated the pick because the draft media had him rated as a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Most of the draft media had him rated much higher until the combine and then they dropped him a round or two.
